Can Azhar lift Kent to further glory?

comment on the article

Kent will hope the veteran Pakistani all-rounder Azhar Mahmood can have a big impact on the team's performances.

Having been refused permission to sign Justin Kemp (appeal pending) they will look to defend their Twenty20 crown and challenge for the Championship title.

The selectors will be examining the performances of opening batsman Joe Denly, tipped as an England prospect.

South African all-rounder Ryan McLaren had a big 2007, and more is expected.

Oliver, Is Azhar cleared by ICL though?

Am I the only cricket fan getting fed up with the India-centric policies of the ICC?

Why are guys allowed to play in the IPL and not the ICL? As far as I can see the ECB has not sanctioned either tournament (hence centrally contracted English players cannot play in the IPL).

So why is Kemp banned, but IPL players allowed to play in England?

I'm reasonably confident this year to be honest. McLaren should see a bit more bowling and if Amjad Khan is fit it will be like having a new signing. We will be batting a very long way down this year compared to a lot of sides with Tredwell at 10 (doesnt he have a county championship century to his name?). Kemp would be a loss but not a terminal one and if Mahmood can take plenty wickets and score the odd half century this season could be rosey indeed.

kent have got their best squad for many years. I fell that the one day tournaments will hold the best bit for silver ware. But kent are a little light in the spinning area with only Tredders the only one. But it should be a good season if they keep the main players of the team fit.

I'm pretty hopeful this could be a decent season but could we not lose Key,Denly and Tredders to international duty?

I'm looking forward to the season, the squad looks strong and will get stronger if Kemp is approved. Be interesting to see how Joe Denly will perform this season now people are talking about him.

Er, are we talking about the same Kent that was just skittled for 162 by a Notts team without its Test bowlers ? Time to start looking for directions to Glamorgan ready for NEXT season...

A bit of a general statement and much too early to be wrting them off. I think Kent may have lost their opening game last season and the eventual winners Sussex had a very slow start I think with winning their first and losing their next two games.

I think it most unlikely that Denly, Key and Treadwell will be called up and not together.
