England has more poverty than India - Australia has a 14% unemployment rate Because the country is so vast, and zero population, one does not see the poverty

if you go to Petri Terrace in Brisbane, a middleclass neighborhood, most houses are termite eaten, 50 years old, representing the 1930's depression era

signs of hopelessness everywhere - Immigrants cannot freely wlak in nights after 9 PM, as the raucous bars may taunt passerby - i would anyday live in India even in poverty than this empty life

As for England, it loses even the charm of Australia's vast space - overcrowded cities, with stinging inflation - zero innovation in England since the death of Issac Newton - way too boring compare dto Austria, Sweden, Holland and Germany and Switzerland, very progressive rich countries

An 8 page newspaper costs 4 pounds (8.5 dollars) in UK - Average income 1000 pounds a month in UK - where is the money to buy the low cost newspaper, for a train read

Stinging inflation - you can bear a wasp bite better

more and more British are seeking employment in US these days - the influx of wealthy Russians in UK has created a big inflationary pressure from what I heard

I'm finding the tone on this messageboard slightly disturbing and ill-conceived at best. The topic is about aussie players wanting to join the IPL rather than play state cricket - IT IS NOT ABOUT VARIOUS COUNTRIES ECONOMIC WELL BEING!.

Several posters who obviously haven't been to the UK ever have been posting some nonsence about inflation/cost of living. It's crap!. A newspaper costs 40-£1 for 80 pages, english breakfasts cost £3-5 nearly everwhere apart from top london hotels and stinging inflation is 2-3% for the last 15 years?

I'm sure my aussie colleagues are a little confused about the description of australia as some kind of unemployed wilderness!

I'm more worried about the money from the IPL destabilising australian cricket - anyone else?

Hear Hear,
The guy is a fool. Clearly knows nothing about the UK. He contradicts himself all the time, England has Indian doctors yet we are not a desirable country ect. The prices he spouts off are part of his imagination. Like the above poster his prices are the true costs. 40p to £1 for paper ect. Plain old foolish and ill informed.

Anyway, I think it is a good that Cricketers get the chance to earn this type of money to then live well after their short careers. On the other hand the domestic game whether Australia or England could suffer. Therefore the domestic leagues have to address the situation as a way in which to compete, offering more money or even schedule their leagues to allow the players the oppertunity to participate in these tournaments.

I doubt they will retire though, I play local cricket and I have been away from UK for 1 year and the need to play is taking over all my thoughts. So i doubt the majority of players would be able to play 6 weeks a year and thats all after playing all their lives!!

Then again im not earning huge amounts of money, im playing for fun!!!!!!

Someone once said that "Loyalty is a strange emotion that tends to vary in direct proportion to the size of the pay cheque".

Do I blame players for wanting guaranteed decent rewards for six weeks work when weighed against the savage selection policies of Australian state cricket? Er... no, especially if they have no contract with State or ACB.

The Australian model of only earning a decent living from cricket at national/state level has driven up the quality and drive of their players. This will be seriously undermined if a faction like the IPL can offer much more financial reward.

The IPL is a problem for all national cricket boards and the ICC needs to ensure the BCCI regulate it properly.

As an aside... For MLS Sucks benefit. If you think cricket is just a public schoolboy's sport you've never enjoyed league cricket anywhere North of Watford. Cricket in the Midlands and North of England is classless and always has been.

It is quite clear that England is the 3rd World when it comes to cricket. Asian countries have the riches both in players as well as money; while even the county system in England is dependant on imported stuff for its sustenance. No wonder England players want to play in the IPL where there is money and talent aplenty.

Wow.

If you've just happened upon this thread, I strongly recommend that you read the posts from "ravibala" above.

Again: Wow.

PS If you can't be bothered reading the whole thread, what ravibala is basically saying is that if there is one country in the world that *doesn't* have miserable poverty it is India, and that you should be looking at the UK and Australia if you want to see the depths of human deprivation and misery.

And then SwamyCricketAnanda backs him up by saying that the money being thrown about by the owners of IPL sides proves ravibala's point.

I'll add my two cents to what they've said: Roman Abramovich is the bestest, most wonderfulest person that has ever graced the face of the Earth.

PS Sometimes people use sarcasm on these threads. winkeye
