Chelsea was never a CL favour (or any other major title) before Jose as manager
-----------------------
Before going out to Monaco's flukes they looked like favourites to me in 2004...under Ranieri!

ok guys, i agree jose screwed things up at chelsea by giving up robben, crespo and gallas.
but let's face the present. the players under grant still lack the committment they displayed while playing under jose. i repeat, i doubt if grant will remain as coach next season if he fails to deliver the champions league or premier league trophy to roma abramovich and chelsea fans at the end of the season. this is a business, and it makes no sense whatsoever for any reasonable team owner to keep spending hard earned money on players and staff who are not committed to the culture of winning.

i dont know why there this apathy about Avam Grant, left for me Grant is such an excellent coach who knows his onus,he is far better than Mourhino. The problem lies in the chelsea players, the fact is that more than half of the present crop of chelsea players do not deserve to be in the chelsea team, they are mediocres,i honestly hope that Grant would go for quality "buys" and then filter off those dead woods at the end of the season.
Whether Avram Grant wins the Premier league or not he should be allowed to continue the Good works he has started at Stamford bridge.

Ithink Grant is trying now just that the players need more improvment to make .

In reply to Cetintas. I think Fernerbahce were unlucky. I don`t think they were especially good. 2 things imo that made it a close match was that Chelsea were very poor. After the first goal Fernerbahce were there for the taking. They didn`t have to play well to keep the score down to 1 nil for so long.
The other thing was the referee, was he a Chelsea fan? He made so many bad decisions which were in Chelsea`s favour. He and the linesman couldn`t even give Fenerbahce a corner after not 1 but 2 deflections of Chelsea players. I`m a Chelsea fan but also in general a fan of football and this was bad advert for football all round.

Whichever way you may think, this year's CL is to showcase English football suprimacy in europe. I'm foreseeing the best uk teams - Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal & Liverpool sizing themselves before the final of the CL FIESTER. Mainly, Arsenal has played Liverpool, Chelsea already set to play Liverpool, and any of the latter is going to play - I QUEST Man. U
- DO U BELIEVE ME?.

Haba, how do you mean that some of the Chelsea players are mediocres? Do u not know that the coach should be left free to choose his players?. That's is one of the reasons why the players cannot perform.

========================

Theres a number of mediocre players at Chelsea:

Tal Ben Haim
Sidwell
Pizzaro
Shevchenko
Kalou

Mourinho signed all of the present chelsea squad, bar the obvious so Grant hasn't been given a chance too choose his own players. He's hardly going to get a warchest in January is he.

So, Grant is doing pretty well with 'Mourinho's' increasingly mediocre squad

Shevchenko, a mediocre player? I guess you never saw him play for Kiev in the late 90's when they thrashed Barcelona at the Nou Camp, or when he was top scorer repeatedly in Serie A? A player whose career has suffered a blip through being bought on the whim of a chairman for a manager who didn't want to play him, more like.
doh
