Ritchie Sacked

League One Huddersfield Town

As bad as you were on Saturday, I don't think sacking Ritchie was the answer. He didn't get time to build his own team, should of been given another season.

What are your thoughts?

We have not moved forward since Terry Yorath left the club and John Dungworth took over coaching the first team! Peter Jackson and now Andy Ritchie have both struggled with a second rate coaching staff. The new manager needs to bring in his own coaching staff and breath new life into a group of talented players.

Have to say that Bradford fan has a point, much as you may not want to here it.

Huddersfield are not the financial giants of League 1, in fact they are pretty much mid-table, like their league position. Against that background, is it really right to EXPECT a manager to make the play-offs in his first season. You should AIM for it, of course, but if you keep EXPECTING the play-offs when the financial resources make that difficult to achieve, all you will do is keep sacking the manager and create instability that stops you going anywhere.

Ritchie had 12 months to turn the club around, that's nowhere near long enough to really impose himself, his style and his players on the club. Whoever Huddersfield get in, their fans would be well advised to give him at least a couple of years (unless he drags you into a relegation fight) to create stability and build slowly towards a play-off challenge.

no mr barnet(doh), we are a big club as much as other fans, mainly bradford, like to tease us, not meaning to bring this all up but how many teams in the space of 3 years won the league 3 times in a row + an fa cup? only 4 i'm told. plus we've got some of the best facilties in the league including the stadium, martin allen mentioned that this morning. we're not financial giants (dont mention that word when your talking to us about money please!) in league one but somehow we've got something like the 3rd highest wages bill, and in the last 6ish months or so we've been linked with 2 takeovers, one made a bid the other hasnt really happened yet, and i doubt yesterdays events will have attracted him much anyway

Yes, when exactly did you win all those titles? Back in the 20's. Football has changed ever so slightly since then.

Looking at League 1, there are at least 6 teams who right now are bigger financially, in some cases by quite a distance. That could even get worse next year with MK and Peterborough coming up and 1 big club on their way down. So I think it's daft to expect promotion every year and sack a manager a year for not achieving it. No club gets progress that way.

So to sum up, you're a middle to big League 1 club financially with potential to improve that situation due to an excellent stadium. But you'll never fulfil that potential sacking manager after manager.

I'd love to know the relevance of that. We're a small club for League 2, doesn't mean I can't have opinions on bigger clubs.

Indeed it is my experience of supporting Barnet which leads me to what I have said on this thread.

The two best periods in our history were brought about by giving two managers (Fry and Fairclough) time to build their own squads even if results weren't ideal and they slowly built us into good sides punching above our weight. That is the best way forward as a club - give your manager time to do it his way and don't put pressure on him to achieve things which are going to be difficult if not impossible straight away.

It just strikes me that Huddersfield fans were expecting instant success from Ritchie and will continue to expect instant success from whichever poor bloke comes in next, and kick him out this time next year when he fails to make the top 6 with a squad that is barely his own.

No digs at Huddersfield, just encouraging you to realise your limitations and the best way to beat those limitations.

well thats your opinion, and our opinion is that you should keep your opinion to your self because in our opinion your opinion is wrong! big club like us needs instant success, and a good new manager can provide that

No other Huddersfield fan seems to be arguing with what I am saying, only you.

So no need for the royal 'we'.

You're clearly a bit delusional as to how big Huddersfield are. League 1 is very much their natural home, albeit maybe a bit higher than they are now.

So to demand promotion every season is self-defeating. Your next manager might get you the play-offs, especially if it's Martin Allen (although you'll lose once you get into them) but it will be because they are a good manager, not because you are a big club.

I'll leave you in peace now and leave you to your fantasy that Huddersfield are a giant of League 1.
