*** FT - ARSENAL 1-1 LIVERPOOL ***

Arsenal Liverpool
comment on the article

THIS IS THE THREAD to discuss ARSENAL 1-1 LIVERPOOL in the Premier League.

Arsenal perhaps got lucky with a 1-1 draw at the Emirates, after Liverpool had the better chances, although, Arsenal did really dominate in terms of pressure.

Liverpool dominated the chances in the first half, and could've gone infront after only the third minute, when Peter Crouch's long range effore was kept out by Almunia.

John Arne Riise had a great chance also, blazing it over with his right-footed effort, from the edge of the box.
"If it wasn’t for our set pieces poor defending, we would have won this match"allaoll

With only three minutes left in the first half, Peter Crouch latched onto a Benayoun flick, and struck the ball sweetly into the bottom right-hand corner of Almunia's goal.

Arsenal now had to come out and attack in the seocnd half, and that is just what they did.

A good 10-15 minute spell for the Gunners soon payed off, when Fabregas' free-kick wasn't dealt with in the Liverpool penalty area, and Nicklas Bendtnar headed home from six yards, getting his head to the ball just before Liverpool's striker Peter Crouch.

The game then really got going, with Liverpool missing a few good chances with Voronin to win it, and Arsenal just appealing for free-kick and penalties, here, there and everywhere.

The attention now turns to part three of the contests between Liverpool and Arsenal, when the two meet in the UEFA Champions League at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Liverpool have now moved six points clear of Mersyside rivals Everton, whilst Arsenal's title dream, is surely now, well and truly over.

No offence, but some of us NEVER did praise Wengers' technics even when we had a flying start. We kept complaining about the over passing that didnt seem to be at the end of ANY of the goals.

If you don't mind me pointing out, we were winning games the non-Wenger style, and in his own comments, he didnt sound encouraging enough for the poaching style the boys turned on - which was play the long ball if and when you rule it sufficient, and mix it up with the passing. shoot ON sight and NOT only on clear chances.

Mind you since Birmingham, these long balls, aerial balls, long range shots, have been coming in handy match after match, but the manager never seems to encourage it. You only need to see how the strickers behave infront of goal when these balls get through, to know that they are never trained to shoot. Its nearly a taboo on Wenger's turf.

We may be thin, BUT we can play something other than the predictable sleek passing, its speedy and extremely tiring, but with the least of results - if you are targeting 1st position. Getting results early rather than chasing them is much less tiring if you asked me. Give you a chance to rest players.

I will keep saying what I said even when we beat Spurs - The manager chooses the style and players he wants to win with. In this case Wenger chose fast sleek passing football and a thin squad.

Yet any soccer muppet can tell that if we must play a style that's done at sprint speed all the time, we need many more legs than anything else to achieve this, which WENGER hasn't done.

All or most of our players come in as average players with skill and they manage to pick form, why not have a sizeable average squad then, it wont come anywhere near 100million a season.

Also, why is it that ONLY Arsenal has one plan, not just for one game but for the ENTIRE season? Is that really a boardroom decision, a players' decision or a MANAGER's decision?

All said and done, you can go around blaming referees, strikers, chairmen, board members and even the fans, but am sure at the end of it, you'll find the manager purched right on top of the problem.

I didnt bother watching the Liverpool game because the result was written all over Wenger's comments and team selection, I also wont bother watching the United match if we play bull at Anfield again tomorrow.

Surely Arsenal need to get more quality players next season, with all due respect to our young guns I believe they are still lacking d ability to give a killer blow to their opponents. AW should face d reality and stop believing he's a miracle worker, we need a silverware in the emirates as soon as possible.

Look, until we lost Edu to a leg break and had a penalty go against us in the 90+ minute we were well in there. It grates me when people keep going on about our squad being too small.

In November against Wigan we didn't field Cesc, Flamini, Diaby, Hleb, Gilberto in midfield yet still fielded 4 or 5 midfielders.

Come Jan Diarra decides he wants to leave (he'd be getting games now), Eduardo breaks his leg, RVP FINALLY comes back from injury and plays half a game before going injured again (until a week or so ago - and now it looks like he's injured again, just as he was starting to get match fit) and no one knows when Rosicky is back.

Please, someone here who reckons our squad is too small and Wenger should be buying, tell me how is AW meant to cover himself for that???

In mid Jan we lost 2 of our main strikers - so should we go and panic buy another with a few days of the transfer window left???? Anelka would've been bought by Chelsea regardless.

And now, to our current run of form:

Birm - leg break, hammered them all game, unjust penalty against us;
Villa - fair enough, a point was good;
Wigan - Rugby pitch and keeper had a blinder(sods law). Dominated possession, should've won comfortably but our own fault;
Boro - at 0-0 we had a valid goal disallowed;
Chelsea - 2 men offside for their first goal when we lead 0-1;
Bolton - hard fought win;
Liverpool (CL) - 100% penalty on Hleb;
Liverpool (league) - Penalty on Fabregas.

I want us to win the league and CL as much as any other Arsenal fan, but we've not had a single thing go for us recently except the Bolton game (and their 2nd goal was a deflection anyway!!).

People slagging off Wenger need their heads examined. Last season, due to injuries, I read we played what you would call out first team (inc Henry at the time and RVP) 3 times all season - 4th was a fantastic result for such a messed up squad. The fact we're still in it now (although only just) after what has happened since Jan is testament to Wenger and the team.

We play fantastic football and, when we had a full compliment, were winning ugly when we needed too.

In Wenger I Trust, no doubt at all!!!

the work AW and his boys had done this season is actually beautifull. but i am also of the opinion that the team really needs strenghtening. we cannot question the fact that arsenal lacks what could be called STRENGHT IN DEPTH. it is the same guys that get fielded every other week, the same guys on the sub bench and there is no way we can rule out injuries let alone fatigue.
i believe the team is actually experiencing both at the moment.

I am of the opinin that Wenger need to spend some money to reinforce his defence. All team score in the first 15 minutes of the game starting. If he is that strong headed then he need to go.

Wenger should not sign players, they are all high calibre (well maybe a defender would be useful) but its the injuries that are hindering the team, Rosicky a very key player along with Eduardo are still at Arsenal remember. When they both recover with VanPersie we will be a force to reckon with just like at the start of this season.
In wenger i trust

As I wrote earlier. 10 points for style. Cabinet maker unemployed, no silverware again but lots of plaudits.

We cannot defend. This total football does not work. Period! I cant believe we're so good and yet so bad.

Second place is nothing. Win win win win win, thats the game.

We need some old boys who can spoil and make us win ugly. Thats what the mancs do when required.

How long will Arsenal fans continue to tolerate
bungling Wenger?He is starting to become an embarrassment with his tantrems and weird comments to the press.His tactics were all over the shop last night and he seems to have lost the support of the dressing room.
I think you Arsenal fans would be better off with Bruce Rioch back leaving Wenger to go play with the seagulls!
Wenger OUT!
