Floyd considering Rematch at Wembley!

comment on the article

Just seen on the ticker thing on BBC Sport homepage that PBF might give Hatton a rematch at Wembley next year.

This just proves that Floydy's in it for the money. He doesn't need to fight Hatton again, it was a convincing win. However it would be a great occasion at Wembley but I'd still rather Ricky fought Witter first. So what do you all think?

EDIT: Found some info on a different site.

Richard Schaefer, the chief executive of Golden Boy promotions, revealed on Thursday that discussions over luring Mayweather to London have already begun.

"It's very likely that Floyd will come over next spring. Floyd and his manager Al Hayman are very serious about it," said Schaefer.

"The first fight was great and while Floyd would have to get past Oscar first, he knows that Ricky has talked about the referee.

"He wants to show that he will repeat what happened the first time. That's his motivation.

"Floyd realises that Hatton is the most beloved fighter in the world and for him to come over to Wembley Stadium is making history.

"For Ricky it's about challenges and it's the same for Floyd. Fighting in front of 100,000 fans would be huge motivation for Floyd."

I said provide me with evidence that Hatton doesn't want to fight Witter... you posted a link with an interview where BBC NEWS wrote the line "Hatton ruled out a match with Witter" in reference to Hattons quote "I would shut my curtains if Witter was fighting in my back garden"

Hardly a smoking gun is it? The fact is that the reason I posted the question is because I have looked at it in depth and have found no such evidence that Hatton doesn't want to fight Witter. Something is obviously stopping them from meeting... time only tells with these things.

vjohn... if time tells, its currently telling about 8 years and ticking. How many of the excuses (some of them legitimate from a business excuse but that's not the point here) do you need to read before concluding what pretty much everyone else who's followed their careers has concluded.

Because Ricky hasn't said 'I will never ever fight Junior Witter' that doesn't mean he hasn't made it abundantly clear that he doesn't want the fight. How much implication do you need? He's said on countless occasions that junior needs to fight in America, win a title etc. Witter does them, and he then says he won't fight him because he's disrespectful... he doesn't want to give him a pay day etc etc.

Hatton's in wonderland - maybe he never left - if he thinks the referee was the reason for his complete humiliation at the hands of a far superior boxer! I don't care how popular he is in the UK, the guy was given a serious boxing lesson by PBF. So why the rematch if not for the money - to me it makes no boxing sense whatsoever (especially for PBF).

At light welter, in wembley with Micky Van as ref Hatton has a much better shot.
However it will still be a large uphill battle.

For the money Hatton will be getting I'd get down to welter and fight mayweather anywhere. So I expect it to be of mayweathers terms not Hattons.

MUFC …..My friend you are clearly deluded or still suffering the effects from United’s win in Rome. I like Hatton, I wanted him to win, but it was clear in the first fight that Mayweather had so many more gears he could shift into compared to Hatton. Mayweather has the greater boxing brain with out a doubt, and even if you think he was some how ahead or close on the score cards after 6 rounds is really irrelevant, seeing as Mayweather just upped his work rate and left Hatton eating his dust on the way to the KO win.

Also, with all this noise being made about the ref, whilst I agree he was making some dubious decisions, it has to be said this was no doubt down to the travelling British fans booing the National Anthem. There was no need for that and it was a pure disgrace.

In the 8 years previously Witter was never really in the frame... follow both of the fighters records closely. Even now at 34 he still struggles to command audiences of 1500... his popularity is pretty weak.

Now... Witter has only recently had a title to his name... Hatton was champion for a long time and Witter never deserved a shot at it because he was not only poor for the box office but his fights were legendary for their dullness - he never got himself into that position... Hatton worked for it long before and Witter jumped on the bandwagon for it. I bet Hatton is loving it to watch Witter squirm... I know I would. Perhaps now Witter does deserve a shot at Ricky and I would love to see it happen too... but don't talk about what went before... Witter was no-where near Hatton 8 years ago
