Which Major Will Ana win first?

comment on the article

Pretty simple question, and after the Pacific Life Open with some startling form im now convinced that Ana Ivanaovic will pick up her first major title THIS YEAR. Close but no cigar already this year, its just a question of which one, please vote...

FLUSHING MEADOWS *****
ROLAND GARROS ****
WIMBLEDON ***

Because Ana is no-2 currently, and Maria is no-5, trailing her substantially in points.

The sisters has never been really good on clay -- Serena won it once in 2002, but then she was a much fitter player, leaner and meaner, unlike she is today.

So only an in-form Henin is still superior than Any on clay. Kuzzy, though a very good player on clay, has a disastrous record in finals (won only one in her last 9 finals (0-3 in 2008).

Scotsguy, do you know where our friend Conosu2 is? He asked me to stick around until Miami, but decided to disappear himselfdohrun

I think Jelena is probably number 2 on clay behind Henin.

Apart from her backhand, Jelena is pretty much useless on all surfaces. The only reason she's highly ranked as she is is coz she played much more than other players last year. Kind of quantity over quality I think

JJ is too fragile mentally for a GS title, and now she is also physically unfit (injuries).

I agree Jankovic's ranking is a bit inflated due to the number of tournaments she played last year. I like her, but unlike Ana, she doesn't apear to have made improvements to her game since last year. I think Ana is a player on the up, but she still is not a great mover. Jankovic is. She can also improvise better, probably giving her the edge on clay.
I think Ana's best chance is the US Open - hardcourts suit her. Both her and Sharapova are big, powerful girls. They are only ever going to be able to improve their movement to a certain extent. While Venus is taller, she is a different build, so covers the court better. If Henin had about 3 more inches, she'd be just about optimum height!

Although she plays way too much ,arent rankings decided on a maximum 17 events for all players?

Some have played less usually through injury.

Yes but there is a bigger chance that 17 of 28 tournaments will give you a better result than 17 out of 17 if you know what i mean. Jankovic does deserve to be in the top 5 though.

Someone mentioned that she beat Venus in straight sets at the aussie open and that was a struggle for Ana when Venus played poorly but as you can she from last year Venus won in straight sets at the US and wimbledon. Ana realistic may ever only get a grand slam at roland garros. As at

Wimbledon - Venus just plays her best tennis there, Serena has the power game to suit the surface, Henin is th superior net player and maybe sharapova with her power aswell.

Us Open - Venus, serena and maria all have power and Venus moves the best and if it weren't for henin been brilliant last year she would have taken that title. Henin is a magician on any surface and maybe kuznetsova if she can be consistent. The younger players like vaidisova and golovin can be threats.

Aussie Open - Again the usual contenders sharapova, serena (plays in my opnion her best tennis there), Venus if she is consistent and Henin the all court magician. The young players e.g. vaidisova, golovin, radwanska can all be threats.

Roland Garros - Henin likes to play there but the main contenders i have mentioned are the worst on this surface. You could add kuznetsova to this 1 as she can play well on clay.

I agree -- it concurs with my analysis earlier on the thread: Ana´s best bet is the FO, especially this year, when Henin is only a shadow of herself, and JJ, Kuzzy all mentally frail. More importantly, the players of the future (Radwanska, Golovin, Vaidisova...)are still not mentally ready for a slam.

i dont see her winning any of the grand slams this year, maybe 2009.On clay henin will outplay her, grass for sure is Venus williams,on Hard court you have the likes of the williamses, sharapova, henin who would challenge her.But she has really improved though.
