GB Archery qualifying heats up

While the majority of the country was contemplating whether they could justify eating a second, or indeed third, easter egg over the weekend, Britain's top archers were contemplating rather more serious matters.

Over 100 archers were at Lilleshall in Shropshire for the first of three qualifying rounds that will determine the three men and three women who will represent Britain at the Beijing Games.

The qualifying event had been due to take place the week before, but a double-booking with an athletics meeting at Birmingham's Alexandra stadium meant the archers had to relocate.

The top five men and women automatically qualified for the second round in June, while a sixth qualifier for each sex was chosen by GB head coach Peter Suk.
