David Beckham

International England
comment on the article

Does no-one else think Capello is awarding David Beckham his 100th cap purely for sympathetic reasons? He will clearly not be a significant part of the 2010 World Cup campaign. I feel Capello is simply giving David his last song as he does not want to be remembered as the coach who denied Beckham his 100th cap.

I do not expect Beckham to be in any of the England squads after this one.

the point that i am trying to make is that beckham is a waste to the england TEAM.

note team, not squad

in the mls he will not have the physical fitness that a international needs.

and his skill level will also decrease and he will simply find it too difficult at international level.

he is overpayed and overrated.

his experience could be useful but nothing else.

he is too buisy pleasing his wife, and being involved in his fashion indestry.

he just hasnt got what it takes to be a top class football anymore.

the passion is there, just not the skill

And Stevie G, Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney, Ashley Cole in fact, the whole of the England squad.

Are they not?

They have all done a lot less than Becks.

Maybe he is interested in fashion or whatever.

Who cares?

What footballers do outside of football, is up to them, as long as they put the work in on the pitch (which Becks does and most others don't, for England anyway.)

doesnt take too much in the mls

most football players are overpayed, but do put in alot of time and effort playing for top clubs.

beckham plays for a small american team and earns more than the top prem stars, ridiculous

Sorry Jake, but you obviously don't get it.

Just look at MLS attendance since he arrived.

Look at MLS attendance at games he has played in compared to season averages and similar fixtures in the prior year.

To say he is not worth the money he is being paid in MLS is simply ignorant.

While there may be 20 - 30 players who one can say are more skilled or more enjoyable to watch or whatever in the Premier League, no one is more valuable to the Premier League than DB is to MLS.

Not even Ronaldo, who many think may win the FIFA player of the year award and may be the best player in the world right now.

How many spectators buy a ticket just to see Ronaldo in the Premier League, do you think?

"when beckham was in a bigger league such as la liga, how many people went to a madrid match just too see him?"

**********************************************

The initial point was his value to MLS.

His value to La Liga is irrelevant to this conversation but if it helps you get your jollies, I agree that few would have gone to watch Real Madrid just to watch David Beckham. doh

hte point is jake-and ill conceed happily on this to the johnnys of this world-that Beckham the product sells in america.Hes everything they adore.Superficial, shiny, simple minded,"brand aware",a player than can easily understand in the way a far deeper and more talented player could never be-yes,even a zidane.Irritating, sickening even but thats why beckham and america with their image over content "franchise" society fit so well.

Robbieo:

You ALMOST made it through one of your boring invisible posts without mentioning Gerrard, and then sadly fell at the last hurdle like a repeat-offending sex pest!

I thought you were a bother to start with, but now I'm hooked; I didn't realise I was one of those people who slow down driving past road accidents...

When you sneeze, do you say "GERRRRARD"?

laugh
