Countdown to the RL World Cup

World Cup England
by Paul Fletcher (U1816326) 25 March 2008
comment on the article

The countdown continues until England run out at the Dairy Farmers Stadium in Townsville to face Papua New Guinea on 25 October - the start of their World Cup campaign.

England coach Tony Smith is adamant that places in his World Cup squad are up for grabs - and revealed in a recent interview I did with him that there could be a few surprise faces in his squad to face France in June.

Who do you reckon could be a surprise inclusion in his squad?

Smith is confident that if England play the sort of attacking rugby we see in Super League that his team can win the tournament.

How do you assess England's chances? Can anyone stop Australia and how important is this World Cup to the game in general?

I hope we can win!
But I expect the Aussies to win every game they play by a street, and the best we can do is not be embarassed in the final if we reach it.

Article smacks of a "slow news day". For heavens sake, the World Cup is 7 months away.

Anything could happen in that time; regulars getting injured, new kid on the block, Australians in new drink/drugs scandle, my Aunt F@nny getting married for the seventh time . . . . . .

Let's just concentrate on this years SL for the time being doh

I think Danny Brough. He's been pretty impressive so far this season.

I don't know how many times it has to be posted on here but Danny Brough is captain of Scotland so would be a HUGE SURPRISE if he was picked for England.

To all those people saying we have no chance in the World Cup because of a poor showing in the Tri-Nations.

Don't forget we had to play consecutive games unlike the Aussies and Kiwis.

With a better time table in the World Cup and a better selection policy who knows what may happen?

I think we will go well in the World Cup, we might even win it!

I hope to be in Australia to see it.
