Gavin rees under-rated?

Seems nobody is giving the little guy a chance in the future except me. Why do I think he will?

1) He is being trained in the calzaghe camp. As cheesy as it sounds, probably one of the best, if not the best training camp in britan.
2) He has very good defense, he uses his height disadvantage to his advantage making him very hard to hit. He moves forwards and backwards to the opponent with great speed.
3) His work-rate. Although he hasn't got much power, he hits a lot of punches, especially on the body making his opponent tire.

Seriously for a chubby little guy he is suprisingly fit and fast. I honestly think he is a class b version of ricky hatton, just no power. Hes not going to want to give away his belt just now, even if hes only just in it for the money, theres certainly more money available in the future if he wins his next few title defenses. Even ricky hatton has his eye on him.

people think amir khan will beat him... hello? amir khan has been boxing for 2 years and only had 16 fights. people forget rees is a world champ, if khan did by any chance get the belt he would lose it in a title defense nearby.

The problem is that Gavin Rees really oughtn't be calling out a man who is a weight division beneath him. As Rees has been around for much longer than Khan, and is in a different weight division, he really ought to prove that he is world class by calling out the likes of Junior Witter, or Ricky Hatton, or even go abroad to fight Paulie Malignaggi et al. His attempt to broker a fight between himself and the relatively raw Khan smacks of desperate self-promoting. This really shouldn't be the way foward!

Khan very legitimately has other fish (his own size) to fry and shouldn't get messed around by the rather self-indulgent Calzaghe camp.

I don`t really care what belts somone has around their waist, I watch their fights and decide what I think of them.
With Joe Calzaghe saying he was "under-rated for 10 years" - yes I did underrate him for 10 years, but I had to rate him by his achievements and the style in which he managed them, and the achievements that really showed his class only came at the end.

As for Rees - go on youtube, watch the M'Baye fight again, and watch M`Baye closely. He does nothing. Barely jabs, just covers up from the start and lets Rees do what he wants. You cannot declare someone world class from that.

And yes Khan could well beat Rees. Rees frankly is about the same size as Gairy St Clair, and without the pedigree or experience.

Khan won every round against him, so I don`t think would have much trouble getting 8-9 against this chubby little jellybaby!

The thing is, M'Baye was absolutley appalling in the Rees fight, I watched it again last night and I couldn't believe how bad he was, he was just standing there not throwing anyway whilst Rees was waving his chin at him.

Rees was busy during the fight but I doubt he really hurt M'Baye, M'Baye could have just waded in there through the punches and seriously hurt Rees, but just stood off like a joker.

Rees could only beat the man in front of him and fair play to him for doing that. However tonight will be a true test of Rees' ability, I can't see Kotelnik standing off him like M'Baye did.

And lets face it, Rees is not a light-welter, he's a super feather or lightweight at best.

If Rees does lose tonight, which I think he will do, I can't see him ever campaigning at light-welter again.

Rspect Calzaghe, Respect Macca, repsect Rees....No, not just cause you ask it, it must be earned by grafting out victories against World class opposition! (In their prime) Carefully manufactured champions, ironically from the same camp all blowing their own horns.

I must admit i do respect Macca some, a true gentleman with great heart. I don't know what happened during the lead up to MBaye & Rees but that sure as hell didnt look like Mbaye and it certainly wasn't due to anything Rees did in the ring. I'll change my tune when some proper results come in. Rees still needs to prove his pedigree, Macca needs to rebuild and Joe needs to stop fighting old men. (Asside from kessler, can't take that from him, was a good solid performance, one from so many fights!?)

Rees looked in apalling condition at last night's weigh in. As did Enzo against Haye.

Team Calzaghe are slightly overrated in my opinion. There success is down to their links with Warren and his tasty match making, as much as anything else in my opinion.

Exactly, just look at who Rees faced up untill M'baye! Journey men and gimme fighters who are in the game to make a living! I respect him for taking his chance when he got it but when he steps up a level he might just get retired! He couldn't handle a Junior Witter or a Hatton, Junior Witter would have more success with Rees, it would be like an excibition! Rees is a big mouth and Khan might just shut it for him!

Rees must start calling out boxers in his weight division and at the same level of their professional careers. It is sad that he has resorted to calling out a junior at a lower weight class. Doesn't he dare to call out Hatton, or Witter, or go abroad to fight Malignaggi, or Ricardo Torres, or Vivian Harris? There's no need to sling mud at your fellow boxers - just fight them!
