Baggie fan in peace.

I'm not sure why we were so keen to move Steele on to Barnsley - he comes across as a decent player with a good future - Man U paid £500k for him as a kid so there is something there. I hope Barnsley make it to the final, given the teams you have beaten so far I think you guys deserve it. If we beat Pompey, then the media frenzy will begin on how unfair it is that Steele is not eligible to play.

ulstermax

What an uneducated, ill-informed comment that was, the word "muppet" springs to mind...

Anyway... good news for Barnsley, all the best now, I'm sure all neutrals with a brain are behind you, I know I am... winkeye

Rubbish that the top teams are out? Rubbish! For a start Portsmouth arent exactly rubbish are they?
Another thing, the top teams deserved it in some way, as the reserves play in the games now in the FA cup. Sure the money maybe in the Premiership, but what happened to the dream of wembley? And lets not take away anything from the lower league teams who put heart, soul and body on the line to pull out those results. Putting some magic back into the cup. I hope one of the other teams win, pref Barnsley i've got a bet on lol. Good luck to all fans and teams still in the FA Cup, and lets try to live up to the build up that its had!

"The rules are clear.
A player taken on loan, even if that deal is made permanent, may not play agaisnt the team that loaned him"

"This is as stupid as it gets."

No it isn't stupid - it's to prevent context of interest.

For example, what happens if a keeper on-loan at Barnsley from West Brom lets in three goals in the FA Cup final? Everyone cries foul.

But at the same time how could said keeper perform to the best of his ability knowing in the back of his mind that, if he has the game of his life, fans and parent club may not welcome him back with open arms? People can be idiots, don't forget that.

So the quandary is avoided by this rule, which is used in other countries too.

Indeed many loan contracts stipulate that the loanee cannot play in ANY Cup match, to prevent cup-tying. West Brom should be applauded for not insisting on this common clause.

Massive shame if it's the case that he misses the final, but c'est la vie.

re: context, meant conflict. Bloody multi-tasking.

I am an Everton fan and after his performance against that other shower across the park I am made up for him ! Good luck to Barnsley and I hope Anderson da Silva recovers soon. For me I reckon this FA cup has been fantastic except for the Oldham match, it is much better in terms of interest with the "BIG 4" all out.
