This is the match thread for the third test of the series between England and New Zealand

I will provide live updates about all the key moments throughout the test match, including wickets and key incidents

Have you all noticed the two test match series being played between teams such as England and New Zealand on the one hand and Sri Lanka and W.Indies on the other have got the latest victory by a same margin of 121 runs score? Hope the same will read in the on-going match between S.Africa and India.

I hope Vaughan takes his own advice. Most of the players had at least one good innings in the tour, even if they underperformed for the rest of it - except the captain.

Even in the 2005 Ashes Bell managed a pair of 50s in the same Test. And he scored heavily that winter when everyone else was struggling.

It's hard to remember that Bell got called up as an injury replacement for England's last series in New Zealand. He was 20 or 21 and then being looked at as a probable future captain of the side.

"Waikato, people have wanted to drop Bell since before he started playing in the Test side."

If Bell had failed in the second innings at Napier, I'd have wanted him dropped too.

Because he doesn't score enough runs, for all his talent.

Let's hope this is his breakthrough. Did you know this is THE FIRST time he's averaged 40+ in successive series?

That's not good enough for someone of his talent.

Silk, just think that in a couple of weeks the county season starts. I'll spend my days listening to Kevin Hand and the Middlesex commentary and feeling bereft whenever they go a week and a half without a game (it seems to happen a lot). I think that I have heard some of the best matches that I can remember on Radio London. I particularly remember the finish of the Surrey - Somerset game at Bath a couple of seasons back with a quite incredible run chase on the last afternoon. Seeing the size of the ground at Bath (it's gorgeous, but tiny) I can imagine Marcus Trescothick scoring sixes with a firm forward defensive.

Bell does not know his batting position for it is changed every fortnight,Strauss showed his class, minus his contribution and England Would have lost(due to pressure that was building over his head).Vaughan should be in the team but the pressure of captainship could be borne by some one else.In tests he has a pretty good average with a decent S.R.

Silk, that is a very telling stat that I did not know. Of course, you are right. Although he has only played 36 Tests they have been spread over 11 series and in the last 9 he has played 3 or more Tests averaging: 17, 52, 22, 94, 33, 45, 32, 44 & 50.

He has also never scored a century in consecutive series. However, he is still only 25 and some years from reaching his peak.

Well done England. Your team is certainly on the way up. Look forward to your team's visit to India. But I am upset that the BCCI decided to cut the schedule of 3 Test to 2. They should have trimmed the ODIs to 5 or so. But then BCCI looks at revenue and not cricket.
Here it is called
