Scottish League East Fife

How bad is this that police have come into the dressing room to advise east fife their not allowed to celebrate them winning the league if alcohol is in a glass bottle, what about all the clubs that have pubs in the ground? why is this allowed? is it because the ground didnt have a licence or something? it wasnt a public place.

This just shows that the law is definalty causing football life to go down the hill!

Forcecrag.... I don't want to get into a pointless discussion with you concerning the rights and wrongs of enforcing the law except to say that the law does not officially give discretion. For example, if you drive a car with more than the legal limit of alcohol and get stopped by the police it is no use in telling them that the roads are empty and that you just live around the corner so it's not really appropriate to charge you. The main thrust of the police at football matches is PUBLIC SAFETY. The Officer in charge would have bee hung out to dry if anything had gone wrong as a result of these alcoholic drinks in controlled containers being on the terracings. Think about what happened to the guy in charge at Sheffield when the disaster occurred there. There is more to consider than a football club celebrating. Congratulations to East Fife...hope you do well in Second Division....might see you at a game at Broadwood. smiley

I find it concerning that those tasked with maintaining law and order are so completely devoid of common sense and appear brainwashed by the PC (no pun) culture forced upon us.

East Fife should be allowed to celebrate in style!

Police are always strict on alcohol!

So, The hospitality guys can drink from glass containers.. this blows away the arguement that alcohol in glass containers are not allowed in a football stadium. The fact that intiative and common sense did not prevail here are a mystery to me. I was once in the process of awarding a bottle of champagne to a 'man of the match' in front of the press last season, but the fact the player (scottish 1st Div) was 17 years old, the police cut in and stopped us because in their words " Alcohol was not allowed on the pitch, and the player in question is under the legal drinking age" What an absolute joke! I almost got into trouble for my laughter. In this case, was the player about to consume the alcohol? No, Was the chairman on standby to take the bottle away and give it to the players mother after the photo shoot? Yes. Was the fact there was a bottle on the park AFTER the game a cause for alarm and potentially a flash point? NO! But, did the police still insist it was against the law? YES!
Give me a break. And they wonder why respect for them is at an all time low.
Good luck East Fife and well done. The police can be ok at times, but sadly, you guys encountered a 'jobs-worth' just like the ones who refuse to arrest the Nazi chanting idiotic gangs in stadiums, but love to tell you to stay in your seat and to keep your feet 'behind the line' Rant over.

Haystongolfer: Public safety - exactly my point, if you've read my post properly. I find it hard to believe that there was any genuine public safety issue here. It's not the same at all as driving when drunk and claiming "well, the roads are empty". It's more like getting arrested for driving on a computer game when drunk (highly recommended for displaying the effects of drink-driving!)

This comes under "you couldn't make it up" . At how many points of this investigation could someone with just an iota of common sense have said " leave it ,it's last on any list of priorities and we will look stupid"
Someone should be sacked for this. It's made the police look idiots and achieved nothing except ridicule.
Was there no one to just say " you must be joking,it's promotion ,just forget it"?

Who are these morons ? Let us know their names and how they ever got a job making decisions on anything.

that's right blame the law, never consider what has brought such a response

the ordinary Joe Soap who cannot behave himself the minute he has alcohol, are the ones you should be frowning at

it does seem absurd but then

Society today is really something to laugh about! the police force need to get a grip and and get there hand's dirty for a change rather than spoil a fantastic end to a season for a club that has made a exceptional impact on Scottish football. Try catching some rapist's,drug dealers,murderer's............need i go on!!!!
