Hamilton wins dramatic F1 opener

Formula One
comment on the article

Lewis Hamilton steered clear of the chaos at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix to get his title campaign off to the best possible start.

The Englishman dominated from the start in his McLaren to beat Nick Heidfeld's BMW Sauber and Nico Rosberg's Williams.

World champion Kimi Raikkonen threw away a chance to challenge Hamilton with a mistake while trying to pass the second McLaren of Heikki Kovalainen.

Kovalainen would have been second but for bad luck with the safety car.

gonzales my arguement is purely aimed at people sayin he was brilliant and the best driver out there. you cannot possibly say that becase ferrari had engine problems and kovie is not as good a driver.

i no it's not his fault no-one was challenging for pace but in a car thaty is much superior to the likes of the renault and the bmw he didn't really have to push all that hard and just stayed on the racing line.

i have never criticised his qualifying because he was tremendous.

he was not pushed at all in the race and my arguement is backed up by the fact he did not get fastest lap...

kovie did...these guys were so far off the pace of hamilton's car that they were the one's pushing hard and the likes of alonso in that race, he was over-taking and being overtaken, you got to see what these guys could do.

you couldn't see at all what hamilton is going to be like...it was routine wat he did, not his fault i no but thats all it was.

and also - people who are critcising the qualifying and how they should be able to have as much fuel as they want and be able to change between qualfying and the race...

why would you ever say tht?! the sport is already dominated by two teams w/o them being able to have there cars as light as possible and definately get pole everytime!!!

it was brought in to open up the grid and it has...see how kimi started 16th...in the old qualfying he would have been on front row even tho his car broke...

1/thank the stars the Beeb has the rights to GP's back.No interuptions, er indors can make the T, perhaps just perhaps sensible sane & reasonable commentry.
2/Lewis this Lewis that, did not do this, not as good as him, ad infinitum.I watch a driver, as much as the producer allowed, drive a perfect race, no bouncing over the kerbs, no showmanship, lap after lap of perfection, apex after apex same place,no matter if tyres are going off a bit, the perfectly set up race car driven if not to absolute perfection, some where damb close.I am sorry for some of you just how little do you know about the art of fast capable race driving, the ability to drive lap after lap within tenths, to some of the contributors to these forums they know very very little it seems,

When you're the newcomer and there's no pressure on you to win, such as there was with Alonso last year to retain the title, and this year with Raikonen to do the same, and you're driving for one the top teams, it is very likely that you'll do well. This is the case right now with Hamilton. He choked in the last races last season partly due to pressure. He might do the same this time around.

jamie-jcb, please stop! All this getting beyond crazy, beyond cranky, beyond wierd!
The best person won the race. LH wasnt the best to you only because he didn't crash or make stupid mistakes and was too fast to boot... God my brain aches!
Kovy had the fastest lap but even before the last safety car intervention was still dropping time to LH on average. Maybe being consistent doesn't matter (especially when talents like Kimi were ploughing the Earth with their cars).
You are all about putting Lewis down for sensible reason while he is doing this nation proud. Throw this sad level of reasoning on your sorry JCB and let it trundle off somewhere beyond the edge of darkness.

okay first of all i said he was best over the weekend.

i said he did nothing in the grand prix...i did not say qualifying so pelase stop all this.

he was not the best driver out there and u cannot tell how well he is going to do this year bcoz all he did was rutein.

yes it is a specific racing line he ahd to stick to but then ANY driver out there cood stick to that every single lap without going off it in his situation when they dont need ot push there car coz its so much superior...

these guys hav a talent for driving fast and therefore any could have done what hamilton did there.

he was not the best driver that race...he was over the weekend but not in the race

ffs he aint even over-taken sum1 so how do u no how he'll drive?!?!?!?"!?!?!?!?!?!??!

Lewis Hamilton is going to win the WDC this year for sure. The guy is pure talent. He will dominate F1 for years to come and all the jealous gits are going to choke with jealousy. Last year they were claiming that Lewis only did well because one FA fixed all the set up. Well what excuses are these jealous peasants going to come up with this year. The nonsense that Lewis was in a superior car does not hold either. He still wiped the track with FA in a similar car. Lewis you are the new uncrowned king of F1, but that crown is now within sight --- Go for it you are the best!!! I think this year is going to be a walkover for Lewis. I hope HK takes second spot. The Feraris are going to need to cook something to get McLaren disqualified or deducted points.
