I am hoping John Boyle is making plans to do more than lay a good pitch. It's time to spend some money on Fir Park.

If the SPL insist on stadium criteria then they must surely also demand the same of the playing surface. Why exactly does a small nation need three different administators anyway? We have the SPL, the SFL and the SFA...whom exactly is in charge? (To Barnzy) Gretna's owner Brooks Mileson has withdrawn his philanthrophy due to serious illness.

And exactly Tree, is Mr Boyle to get all the money you wish to be spent on Fir Park?

I take it Anglobairn you mean, where will the money come from?
A start might be to get all the local business men and women with Motherwell FC at heart around a table and open the club up to a wider ownership.
Speaking for myself (and a few others I talk to and go to the games with) I would like to have the opportunity to buy a small share of the club. I'm sure there would be others who would also be interested if the opportunity arose.
Now I know its hypothetical but allow me to indulge myself. Lets say Boyle offered 1000 fans the opportunity for £2000 to own a percentage of the club, that would raise 2M towards development costs. Now before you go shouting that not many people could afford the money I'd like to point out that I, along with many supporters already spend approx £2000 a year on tickets, strips, travel, food and drink etc for my family without any say in how the club is run.

I have other ideas but need to go to work.

Anyway goodluck for the top 6 place.

If I had the chance would put in more than £2k it is defo something Motherwell should be looking at, I have been sickened by fans coming on and having a go at us for circumstances outwith our control. I have sent a few e mails to Motherwell today first questioning the charity game and who is actually organising it and along the lines you have posted here.

This was always going to happen. anybody who had ever been to Fir Park before could have told you that before a ball was kicked back in the summer of 2007. I am not having a go at Motherwell here but, in reality, their pitch is probably regarded as the worst in the SPL anyway and to make them share with another team is ridiculous.

Obviously whichever big-wig in the SPL who made this decision had never been to Fir Park and probably only goes to Old Firm games in the hospitality suites.

The SPL need to stand up and be counted. The ruling that all premier league teams need to have a 10,000 all seater stadium is a farce. Which teams regularly get over 10,000 week in week out? 3, possibly 4 at a stretch. Gretna needed to spend £30,000 to visit Aberdeen and need to spend money each week on travel even to home games! They were promoted playing on their own pitch so let them play on their own pitch. It's good for the town, good for the football - no team would enjoy traveling south to play them at home. Just look at the example of Colchester in the championship. They play at a tiny ground and no team enjoys going there to play - it is Colchester's strength.

I do not think Grenta would have stayed up anyway but at least they play where they belong and teams need to use their finances for player wages, travel etc. when playing in the top flight not redoing their stadium within 12 months. The problem was the same with Caley and Falkirk and it certainly hurts clubs before they even have a chance to establish themselves.

The SPL needs to alter the stadium rule to a 5 year plan. If clubs promoted remain in the league and have not attained a reasonable sized ground (not 10,000) within that time they get fined and points deducted. At least then they have a fighting chance.
