Are you embarrassed?

With the talk after the game on "the Taylors of this world"

Simple question.

Shows you that all perspective was lost.

I mean, you never got a penalty.

As for everything else, it happens - the ref's performance was not that bad.

So, back to the question - why is your management team talking about Birminghams Taylor?

I'll tell you why?

Because they have no class. NOT WUMMING, genuinely believe it.

Wenger and Benitez have complained but as always United take it too far...

"the taylors of this world"

"the ref was on their side"

If you want to talk about overall standards then why wait until the moment something "may" have gone againt you!

Had Rio or Vidic made that tackle then it would have been an old fashioned shoulder tackle.

YOU ALL KNOW IT.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Possibly the dumbest post I've seen this week.

I just can't see that happening. The difference between Rio, Vidic and Distin is that both Rio and Vidic know what a foul/penalty is and wouldn't put there team in such a blatant position.

They would've had the decent sense to run the attacker out to the touch line or cover the ball out of play, but not run into the attacker and flatten them without any attempt to get the ball.

The comments by Distin were interesting but it shows a fairly undeveloped knowledge of his position IMO. Nobody expected him to just let Ronaldo through but if you can't get the ball then you can't make the challenge!!!!

This was not shoulder to shoulder, S to S is about chasing 50-50 balls and getting infront of the attacker/defender, this was a SHOULDER BARGE used to throw Ronaldo off the ball in goal scoring position and anyone who can't see that obviously has a major hump about United.

BTW. My comments do not in anyway reflect my thoughts on what SAF and CQ said after the game. I think that Fergie embarrased himself with such blinkered, petulant rubbish and i'm still in disbelief at what Carlos said. yikes

Don't be thick mate.

I understand that Rio and Vidic are top defenders but my point was hypothetical hence the thick tag.

So just for arguements sake, although it might never happen (although mate, no matter how good a defender is they can still make "strange" tackles) pretend, or think that Rio made an identical tackle....

Just to amuse me, imagine that happened....

Do you think Fergy would say, "stupid Rio what are you doing" or "not the best Rio but no worries it was not a penalty"

I think, that if it were Rio, you boys would be defended that shoulder barge or whatever.

And by the way, Distin is a top defender and no matter how good a defender, you are still likely to give away a penalty. You're arguement above that Rio and Vidic might not do that is flawed because no one is perfect but that's a side point. The first point is the hypothetical one - how would Fergy react if Rio had done that (hypothetical) ok

Why should we have to defend a hypothetical point? Does it deal with any of the injustice of the actual REAL tackle?? NO.

It's a ridiculous question my friend, it's like saying to parents of a brutally beaten victim "well, if it was the other way around I bet you'd think it was okay" (exaggerated circumstances I know)...

I'm sure Fergie would defend his boys or maybe avoid the topic, that's football management for you.

Personally however, I couldn't defend it even if I wanted to, it was a stonewall penalty right in front of both the linesman and referee.
I don't see how my point is flawed? It was a stupid mistake that went unpunished, Vidic at a push (and even then it's highly unlikely) may have lost his senses but Rio knows his job better than that, it was terrible decision making by Distin and no matter how high you rate his abilities good defenders simply don't do that, or at least they shouldn't.

Even if Ronaldo is fairly well known for his ability to bail like a sack of potatoes that shouldn't conquer the referee's ability to SEE.

There were two people on the field who had obviously forgotten how to do their job, one was the ref the other was Distin.

Okay so let's put it this way.

If it was such a stupid decions by Distin then how come he "got" away with it.

I know I can be bias against you boys but I don't think it was as clear cut a penalty as being made out.

Rio may be "cultured" but no player is perfect! That was my point.

Okay, so let's not talk in hypothetical terms but that was the basis "of the dumbest post you have read"... that's all.

Anyway... ok

Despite the lack of repercussion it compromised their teams chances of winning at that moment, as we all know it is the responsibility of a defender to do the reverse of this.

Fair enough, if it wasn't a stonewall penalty for you, that's cool but we're not the ones being trusted by both teams on the pitch and being paid by the Premier League to call out any foul-play in the game.

I doubt there was any bias involved in the referee's decision but he should have been aware of Pompey's 'mentality' when after a few minutes there had been a series of offences already notched.

Distin's challenge was as clear as day, he's fully aware that he can't get to the ball so instead he runs to the man and knocks Ronaldo out of his run at goal with a weighty shoulder barge.

Ronaldo was incapable of simulation in this situation so that surely cannot have entered the referee's head. It is debatable that Ronnie was playing for a penalty, but so what? He had beaten his man so whether he played for a penalty, goal or a corner it didn't matter as he wasn't doing anything beyond the rules of football.

It was infuriating to watch but I can get over it, the injustices of football happen week in week out for every team and tbh we had plenty chances to win the game.

I apologise for insinuating that you were 'dumb'. ok

Accept this please - alewinkeye

Friday will indeed be interesting, anyone who doubts the EPL's dominance of football surely just has to look at the teams left in the draw...

ARSENAL
Barcelona
CHELSEA
Fenerbache
LIVERPOOL
MAN. UNITED
Roma
Schalke

Very impressive, there's no way that would have happened eight years ago. ok

Unfortunately I expect at least two English clubs to face each other in the next round.
