Whose name is on the FA Cup?

comment on the article

For the first time in a 100 years there is only one top-flight side in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Portsmouth are that Premier League side, while Championship trio Barnsley, Cardiff and West Brom make up the rest of those still in the hat.

SEMI-FINAL LINE-UP

Apparently, Pompey are going to win it because the last team from outside the Premier League's 'big four' to win the FA Cup was Everton in 1995. They beat Manchester United 1-0 in the final.

Barnsley are taking heart in the fact that West Brom are still in the competition. The Tykes will win it as they won the competition for the only time in their history in 1912 when they beat West Brom in a replay.

The omens as to why a certain team going to win the famous trophy are set to come out in full flow so tell us whose name do you think is on the FA Cup? And, why?

Imagine if it's Liverpool v Chelsea Champion's League final. Would that make Barnsley the best in Europe if they lifeted the cup?

I bet the FA were terrified of the big guns being knocked out but in reality this is the best thing that could've happened. The FA Cup used to be about unfashionable sides winning - it's become too predictable. This season has been a joy!

The Man U v Portsmouth match was a travesty - but I have rarely laughed as much as I did during that game!

I am Cardiff born & bred. It's incredible to see the lads doing so well in the FA Cup, and win or lose in the semi's, they're already heroes.
Personally I do see a Portsmouth v Cardiff City final, and to be perfectly blunt, can see Portsmouth winning it, though obviously I want to see City lift the Cup. I think that Portsmouth are too strong, and their manager is a very shrewd guy, but you never know - this years competition has been all about surprises & upsets. I think any one of the four clubs left are capable of winning, so good luck to you all - let football & the FA Cup be the true winner!

Sorry for very long post. In reply to bobbankbluebird2008

"I wouldnt normally post on here but seeing 'Slimboyslim's comments I couldnt resist... I suggest you check your facts before posting total nonsense!!!"
-------------------------

Would like to apologise if my facts are wrong, although I'm glad you decided to join the forum, isn't that the point of debate, to rouse opinions? I admit to knowing NOTHING about Cardiff's possible route to the UEFA cup before reading comments I read HERE on this thread! Hence the statement, "If I understand correctly...", which I realise that I DON'T.
Perhaps someone else does...
----------------
"Contary to what you 'believe'. The Welsh Cup did provide a route a Europe, but due to UEFA Regulations from 1995 only Welsh League Teams can play in the cup (and therefore qualify)."

So if CCFC can't qualify through the English competitions, and they can't enter the Welsh ones, are they EVER able to play in UEFA competitions? Surely if Liverpool can sneak in after finishing 5th in the league anything can happen, but then clubs like Liverpool get different treatment from the governing bodies!

i would absolutely love it for BARNSLEY TO WIN and i think that they do deserve it. they're playing so good and are proper trying. it's only fair that they win and alos i think that unlike other managers when they won and everyone ran on to the pitch the manager actually hugged everyone and was just as happy as the fans if not nore. where as if it wa a premier league manager i don't think they would have done that.
so C'MON BARNSLEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wingcommanderthrust,
For once, just once, show some grace, if you are incapable of winning gracefully try showing your opponents some respect on a job well done. God you fans of the top sides annoy me.........................................................................

That argument would have been fair enough if Pompey had of came out to play football against us on Saturday instead of "parking a bus" in front of David James' goal. It also lacks credibility due to Atkinson's amateur refereeing...Pompey didn't beat us, Martin Atkinson cheated us out of a possible Treble, hence the reason for Red Devils' fans fury. doh

No problem Slimboyslim, the reason I wanted to correct you on Cardiff's European saga was not to prove you wrong... Just that there might be other people reading who don't know the full story either.

But yes you are right on the fact that (at this present time), regardless of if Cardiff City won the FA Cup, League Cup and Premier League... They still would not be nominated by the FA to represent them in UEFA competitions!

This has been common knowledge to Cardiff fans but the reason it has never been spoken about publicly is the "cross that bridge when we come to it' mentality of the FA."
------

The real question is whether the FA either can't nominate us, or don't want to nominate us. Considering the case of AS Monaco & FC Vadez, I have to believe its the latter option!

Platini will sort it out anyway if Cardiff win it.

It would be great if Cardiff won it and now they have an extra insentive with Platini saying that he will fight their case to play in the UEFA cup.

Whoever lifts the trophy this year will have earned the right, and that includes Pompey. The times that I have seen Man Utd get the 'rub of the green' in the past, they never complain when it goes there way. Alex, you can have the day off put your feet up and watch a unique spectacle unfold. This year the FA Cup is about grit and determination.
