Waiting for No Go

Championship Ipswich Town

Why has it taken the Magus so long to come to a conclusion that was blindingly obvious to everyone else - Nugent isn't keen! And why hasn't he got a back-up plan ready to go? And why are we still waiting for a response regarding Mr Mystery, aka a central defender?

Why in January did we buy three midfield players when we needed only one, when there was a crying need for a striker and that central defender. The games run on and, so far, little improvement has been seen and £4 million has been spent.

Maybe Spanishblue has a point. Maybe the Magus isn't up to it. Seems that he is trying pack the midfield with all the new men – when fit. An exercise in justification rather than tactics?

I sympathize with this Magilton - Nugent should have at least had the common decency to call him back. That to me is ridiculous and unprofessional.

What makes it worse is that for me David Nugent is not a Premiership striker but a Championship striker. He does not belong in the division and *should* be playing for a club like Ipswich. I rate Magilton highly - I was impressed when I saw him on Setanta's Big League Weekend.

I have no idea why Nugent won't go to Ipswich on loan. He is not going to get play time at Pompey, and if he is harboring hopes of playing for a promoted side next year it is in his best interests to impress in the Championship right now.

It great to read such interesting posts from people with vast experience in tranfer dealings.

So he did not call - so what? This is a none story.

Ipswich fans are bound to be upset because he is not joining.

He only joined a premiership club in the summer and i don't think anyone can blame him for wanting to give it a full season before he considers a drop to a lower league club.

This is about perception - Ipswich see a snub but the reality maybe that he is fighting for a place in the 1st team at portsmouth. Its down to your point of view.

I don't see why that is an unprofessional comment.

I'm an Ipswich fan and I didn't really want to see Nugent coming to Portman Road to be honest. He's acted in this way before and I wouldn't want any ego inflated striker like him at our honest hard working club!

Healy's 10 times better than Nugent anyway!
If Ipswich get Healy then they're a very lucky team.

DavieboySAFC think you are right about not going to sunderland.

lets face it, if pne could afford it, we would of let nuge go to everton on the cheap, as it was his choice but its all aboutt the doh and pompey came waving the cash, i agree harry has ruined nugent, he did the same with fuller when he bought him from pne. keegan did the same wig macken at man city.

there seems to be a big wave of egoness above nuges head, i saw that under simpson in the summer when he jus buggerd of on holdiay watimng to tailor pick his premiership team.

healy not better than nugent by a long shot either, ill give him that much.

What a narrow-minded, myopic view!

Harry has not "ruined" Nugent, any more than he "ruined" Fuller. Neither did Keegan "ruin" Macken. They're just not Premiership quality. True, Nugent is young & may get better & prove us all wrong, but my feeling is that he'll never be more than a fringe Prem/Champ player like Healey, Kenny Miller, James Beattie & Kevin Phillips. Are you really suggesting that Harry should be playing nugent regularly, ahead of Defoe, Kanu & Utaka (plus Benjani before he left)?

Just because Nugent, Fuller & Macken played well for PNE doesn't automatically mean that they're world class!

It seems to me that Redknapp has hardly given Nugent any chance at all. There were rumours that he was going to be sold within days of him arriving at Fratton Park - I bet that made him feel really welcome.

He was good for Preston, appeared once for England but was not the finished article when he left Deepdale. All he needs is to be encouraged a bit and he will become a decent
Prem striker.

One thing though - PNE certainly know how to strike a deal, Macken for 5 million must have been the best of all. Closely followed by Claude Davis for 3 million!

I think this lack of response from Nugent is a symptom of the general sickness and malaise within the game. The premier league set up has been a disaster for the whole of the game. Over paid managers and players who compete with other clubs on an uneven playing field. One of the worst offenders got beaten yesterday by a side that was completely at a disadvantage resource wise. If their positions had been equal Chelsea got beaten yesterday at least 10 -nil.Nugent s lack of response is rude and unforgiveable. Who would want someone like that playing for you? In my mind the Championship is the most interesting competitive genuine league. Whats the big deal of getting into the Premiership? Arsenal for example little or no local talent, supporters who only support,Manchester United. Many fans who can only bear to be associated with success rather than supporting a local club or one that they can claim genuine affiliation to.
In my view Ipswich is and always will be a fabulous club. This because of what it stands for and what it believes in.Jim would probably have already lost his job if Ipswich was like Newcastle. We dot want players who are solely focused on their wage packet at the expense of playing and giving good value for money. So many fans saw Jeffers as the solution to the problem.Whats happened to him
I totally agree with Jim. Why should we compromise what we believe in to get to somewhere which potentially is less worthwhile than where we are?
