Lay Off Dwayne Chambers...................!

British athletics
comment on the article

He has Broke the Rules, paid his price, served the Time and all to the Rule Book.
It is like the whole reason for Athletics stinking of Cheating and Corruption is down to Chambers.
Since Berlin or even before we have had Drugs involved in Athletics, it will go on well after Dwayne has retired.
So coming down on Chambers is merely papering over the Cracks and is making the IOC look stupid!

Put it this way, I'LL be chearing him on in the World Indoors!!

A few quick points:

- There is no correlation between Ohourugu and Chambers. There offences are different. Chambers took drugs, Ohourugu did not, as proven by multiple tests between those which she missed.

- I support that it is in the rules that Chambers should be selected for the world indoors and any other event where a team is selected and sent by UK Athletics - as they have no rule to prevent it. However, the BOA do have this rule. Chambers knew it when he broke it and it is perfectly clear to all potential Olympians that if they cheat, they will not be admitted back to the games (as other athletes convicted of taking drugs such as Carl Myerscough are not). Chambers should abide by the rules of the sport.

- We are getting into very dodgy territory if we go down a legal route here. Would the offside rule stand up in court? No. Is it legal for the FA to fine players their wages for misdemeanours? I'm not sure. But the fact is, athletes have to abide by the rules of their sport. The BOA rule states he should not be allowed to compete at the Olympics - therefore he should not. A legal challenge mocks the very existance of rules in sport.

And just to those people who seem to be under the impression Chambers could win an individual olympic medal - get real. Whats his (non-drug aided) PB? Not a lot under 10 seconds - he wouldn't get close to Powell or Tyson G.

(How stupid: I can't use the surname of the World 100m Champion because 606 thinks I'm being 'offensive'!)

No she did not fail a drugs test but she missed tests.
When an athlete takes drugs they do not take them continuosly they will cyle them for 2/3 months. It then becomes very clear that if you miss a test then it is probably because you are taking something, so the sensible thing to do is stop taking what your taking and let the drug clear out of your system. To miss 3 would indicate one is very naive and took a drug which does not clear out of your system very quickly hence why they would have to miss the remainder of their tests

Whilst I think that complicit drugs cheats should probably have life bans, to say Chambers is in it for the money is plain wrong. As far as I'm aware any money he makes through athletics he has to repay to cover the prize money he made prior to failing his test. If he wanted to make a quick buck he'd be btter off in Sainsbury's working the night shift

If he was from Liverpool he would probably have been called Soun Dasa (Pound)

Most people on here have made the point that the two year ban is really about keeping the cheats in the sport to genrate WR`s and so get people through the gates and sponsors money. Pound has confrmed that. The lawyers run the sport and Chamber swill be in Beijing..

Lets pick an entire squad of drug assisted cheats.

The legal athletes can stay at home and participate in a spelling contest.

loxstar, I agree with you, Chambers could be inspirational.

Too many people on here must be extremely privileged or they are just downright self righteous and judgmental. In the real world most of us know someone who is badly affected by drugs. It's terrible to watch someone close to you, who once had so much potential just give up on life and deteriorate.

And even if you don’t know anyone who is affected surely it is in the interest of society as whole to show users that if they stop using they will be given a fair chance of making a success of their life.

There will be victims of drugs related crimes today, tomorrow and the next day and the victim count will continue to rise. Just as the harm suffered by the victims will grow increasingly severe. The police can’t help and the only way to prevent this situation is to get addicts off drugs. Showing them that even if they do stop using drugs they will still have no possibility of a successful future is not the way to get them to change.
