India's win is special because...

One-day internationals India

Congratulations, India, from all of us ABA (any team but Australia) fans. Like we England last year, you beat the Oz 2-0 and proved the cynics wrong.

India's win is all the more special because

1) They have a young and inexperienced team. I read somewhere that the average age of the Indian team is 24 while the Aussies' is over 30.

2) They beat Oz in Oz. The Aussies know their pitches well and have giants like Ponting, Hayden and Gilchrit but the Goliath was brought down by the unassuming visitors.

3) They defeated Australia in front of some of the most partisan crowds with their ugly taunting of Singh and others. The image that comes to mind is Spartacus daring to take on anything that Rome throws at him while the arrogant, drunk crowds watch in disbelief.

I owe this young Indian team an apology. I honestly didn't think they could do it. I grew up admiring Cricketing Titans like Dravid, Laxman and Ganguly and I didn't think these no-name newcomers are adequate replacements.

Some of the more arrogant Aussie fans here were predicting that India wouldn't even reach the finals of the CB series!

Great work, India! The world smiles at you and a bright future beckons your daring youth.

It is unbelievable that India beat Australia in Australia that too in a final match. The young Indian team is very talented. Now BCCI should start searching for a player who plays like Sachin(it is obvious that no one can replace sachin,no one can be compared to sachin).I was waiting for this moment that is to Ponting in an embarrassed state as he was very arrogant and over confident.

Australia only had themselves to blame for the defeat. I just felt maybe at times their focus was more on other things like sledging and confrontations with the Indian players. They did not concentrate single-mindedly on their cricket.

You could see the Indians were more hungry and focused to win the finals. Maybe the Australians were a bit complacent at times and it backfired for them!!!

Several inferences from India's win the CB series

- Aussies were trying to frame Harbhajan against all good conscience - Result - Harbhajan dismissed the infamous trio - Ponting, Hayden and Symonds repeatedly - Also, Symonds got inot an unwanted controversy hitting the male streaker - this is what we call "what goes around comes around" in USA or Karma in India

- Dale Steyn ha sbowling magnificently of late - remains to be see whether Steyn can conquer the world' greatest middle order of Laxman, sachin, Dravid, Ganguly and the not so veyr far behind, Dhoni, Kumble and Ishant and Sehwag and Gambhir - only time can tell

- it is unwise for other second string teams like Pakistan and Englnad to extrapolate India's win and start fancying their chances against Australia - Australia is a wounded Lion - It is hungry - Pakistan and Englnad will get mauled if gthey approach Australia anytime soon

It is better of they tour Australia in the presence of all-conquering Indians, a soothing presence for the downward looking Englisha nd Pakistan teams

India owe their success to lots of training from Aussie greats like Lillee et al - In western culture, there is no such thing as indebtedness, unlike Aisan culture - But i feel India owes its success to Dean Jones, Lillee, Sandy Gordon like people, who have socialized Inidans with Aussies aggro, etc

Money, sure India doled out in plenety for their services, but money can't buy success -

On the other hand, England, is still busy giving excuses with their inebriated fans, blaming India for Yuvraj slamming Dmitri Mascarenhas for 6 sixes in an over

Flintoff and Collingwood can turn this team back on its heel - But Hoggard, Harmy, Anderson are busy giving excuses

Ravibala,
I agree that our team is young and has a good future, but we can't underestimate others. In past also we have seen inconsistent performance from our team once the players become complacent. Like Ishant, Pathan was the find of the previous Aus tour, but somehow he has lost his venom.
India should rotate the youngsters, and I hope they wont lose their strenghts because of the 20-20 format of the game.
I personally feel we should welcome the success but with caution.

@ravibala, it is gracious of you to acknowledge the West's help in the shaping of India's players but it goes both ways. A friend of mine who is part of the ECB coaching team says every major international batsman these days study video footages of Sachin and Dravid. Learning is part and parcel of growing, no matter what business you're in.

Btw, Mascarenhas was the one who hit Yuvraj for sixes but the latter hit Chris Broad for six sixes. A minor correction.smiley

Lol what crap..Australia are a human team, yeah they play good Cricket but they are flesh and Blood and its been proven here. They can get trashed withing 4 days of a test match, they can be knocked out 3 times consecutively in Odi's.
If people still fear this team then obviously you will lose.Give them some respect but remember its pretty easy to get underneath their thick hides.
If the Rest of the World really wants to finish this Aus. Dominance forever i suggest you go at them real hard. Not one step back,no Gilly to take the attack to you and they don't even have a proper spinner now.
Mentally tough my foot,Keep giving them back in the same coin and they will crack.Remember the so called 170 Kmph bowler Tait who is enjoying the old age home nowadays..Lmao
