Gary Peters has left....What Happens Next?

League Two Shrewsbury Town

We all know supporting Shrewsbury what a roller coaster ride is like, but have we ever been on one quite like this?! 12 games left, 40 points and no manager. One win in 12 and an all too familiar habit of scoring goals but conceding many more. Here are our last 12 games.

Shrewsbury v Rotherham
Shrewsbury v Darlington
Macclesfield v Shrewsbury
Dag & Red v Shrewsbury
Shrewsbury v Bury
Shrewsbury v Notts County
Chesterfield v Shrewsbury
Morecambe v Shrewsbury
Shrewsbury v Wrexham
Mansfield v Shrewsbury
Shrewsbury v Chester
Rochdale v Shrewsbury

Not a too harsh set of fixtures, however with the state the clubs in at the moment i can't see us beating any body in the league. I don't think we'll go down, but when/if these 10 points come i will be a relieved man. The Wrexham, Mansfield and Chester games seem like the best chance for us to get the points we need! Can't wait for the games to be honest! COME ON SALOP!!!

It was already a done deal, i think the board have been seeking out a successor for a while and they gave Mr Peters an honourable way out.

Simpson i think would be a good choice although he needs to steady the ship first.

As an interested observer i think that Simpson would do a good job for you and you would probably do well next season, i do feel that he advanced through the leagues a bit fast and when he was a PNE didn't realise that the step up from div 1 to CCC is quite big and some players cant make the jump.

He did very well at carlisle prior to preston and most north end fans liked the guy but it was obvious that the signings he made were not of the required calibre

I am gutted as i had a wager that your boys would go up with MK dons seeing as you have one of the biggest wage budgets

still there is always next season and the ground will not be so new , alot of teams seem to struggle in a new ground

regards

Cheers for the good comments guys. Paul Simpson looks as if he has the required calibre to sort us out. Like you said though NUGENT4ENGLAND once you are at Championship level, then the whole picture changes, where as you know, is a fine balance in the words of right and wrong decisions and purchases of players. We have a brilliant structure at Shrewsbury. I just feel that we have been left behind, and are a club that should be playing in the Championship. We just haven't found the right man to get us there. We would fill the New Meadow with ease if this were the case, and be able to bring those glory days back as to what they should be and what the fans deserve.
Thanks again for the comments guys, nice to be able to converse with football fans rather than the odd muppet ! All the best for the rest of your season.

Paul Simpson would be a good choice - he knows the league well and has had success with Carlisle at this level.

Gary Peters did a very good job at our club during the time he was here and it is a shame he has gone, but at the same time, he did appear to have lost his way a bit this season!

I hope we go for someone with proven success at this level and Paul Simpson does appear to be a candidate with experience and perhaps most importantly, success at this level.

Interesting times.

I hope we can just reach that golden 50 points sooner rather that later now though!

As for Martin Allen managing us, I don't like the man, so I wouldn't be happy if he was considered. It seemed that whenever a bigger and better opportunity came around, he was off!

I am a dons fan. To be honest i dont like Shrewsbury, but to see Martin Allen their would sadden me. He has the managerial capability but whenever he gets the chance to go to another club he takes it. He did it at Brentford, Barnet, Milton Keynes. And i am glad what happened to him at the foxes. Hope you do get a good manager to take over from Peters.

Up until 2 weeks ago I backed Peters. 40 years a supporter and there comes a time when the Manager loses the support of the fans, that anti Peters sentiment accelerated quite dramatically in the last fortnight.
For me his treatment of Dave Edwards last year probably swayed my views. Dave like Joe Hart is often seen amongst the fans supporting the club, when fixtures allow. Why ? simply as they Town supporters.
To leave Dave out of the clubs biggest day in its history, and to see him travel to the game on a supporters coach was in my view a disgrace.
