The biggest WTA tournament(tier 2) in the sub-continent will commence tomorrow!

As a non-Brit, I would like to congratulate all the British friends that Katie OŽBrien has made the main draw in Bangalore!

The potental quarter-final match-ups will be:

Jankovic(1) - Kirilenko(8)who is the likely opponent of OŽBrien in Round 2

Schnyder(4) - Szavay(5)

Serena Williams(3)- Bammer(6)

Venus Williams(2) - Zvonareva(7)

The Williams Sister will meet each other in the semis should both advance as anticipated -- good news for all fans of the "sisters Act"! Well, enjoy!

Conosu2

You sound so jealous and envious. Lol! They are staying because they are still good. They may lose from time to time, like everyone else, but they remaind because they are still world-class players. No amount of wishful (mildly pathological hatred) will change that! So get over it. Besides, all the things you say about their family are out of order, given that you have no personal knowledge of them. Further, all the adjectives you use to describe them can be applied to over 98 per cent of all the top players. Again, get over yourself and your narrow-mindedness!

bubbly to Serena! Good to see her back, after quite a long time. Keep it up and show the youngsters how a GS champion should be!

Shame on the bigots. I get so tired of people saying winners shouldn't win.

consu2 thinks that he/she is the bully of the board.posting it's bigoted, narrow minded, and jealous ramblings all the time. Has absolutely nothing to do with tennis talent, or lack of it.

The young players on the WTA can only hope to have such successful careers as Venus and Serena. I think this is down to them having other interests outside of the tennis arena.

I think its fantastic for the sport that Serena is still winning titles, and has finally got off to a winning start in 2008.

However, i don't think much of her actual *form*: she looked terribly off-balance and late on many shots struck deep to the (her) baseline... and her footwork around the ball (good footwork being essential for her extended swings, especially on the forehand) was awful, for most of the match. She looked unprepared for many (straightforward) balls, and especially vulnerable when taken out on angles, wide to her forehand. Patty couldn't not fully exploit Serena's weakness in the set-up/base for her shots - but almost any other top twenty player would have done, imo.

Serena did admit that she was not 'match fit' at the beginning of the tournament.... i just hope that she is working on her game and can fine-tune it ahead of the big(ger) tournaments.

Tennis needs players like Serena.

Venus and Serena are doing what they are happy with. fair play to them. Why anyone will think they have the right to dictate to these girls is beyond me.

Good assessment of the final, drivevolley....

Serena won in straight sets, which was good to see. It's nice to see her back to winning tournaments again.

But she sitll has more work to do to be able to take on the likes of Henin.

i think that Serena can get get to top form,
but needs to become fully fit and -work-
on her game....
