THIS IS THE THREAD to discuss FULHAM V MANCHESTER UNITED in the Barclays Premiership

  • Venue: Craven Cottage
  • Date: 1/03/08
  • Kick-off: 15:00
  • Live on: Match of the day @ 22:20

Live Action:
  • Owen Hagreaves gets his first Premier League goal with a superb free-kick outside the area
  • Park Ji Sung with a good header from Scholes cross, 2-0 at half-time, surely game over
  • Simon Davies gifts Manchester United a 3-0 lead as O'Shea's effort is diverted by Simon Davies, Goal Difference looking good for Man United too
  • !
Match facts:
Second bottom against second top.

Triple chasing Manchester United now have a superior goal difference of +4 on Arsenal, therefore victory at Craven Cottage, coupled with defeat for the Gunners, home to Aston Villa, will see the Red Devils return to the summit.

Even three points will not be enough to see the relegation-haunted Cottagers out of the bottom three.

Fulham have won as many Premier League games at home as Manchester United have lost away (three), and conceded as many at home as United have scored on the road (23).

United are still looking for a first in London this season; they have drawn two and lost one of their three Premier League visits to the capital.

Fulham have won one of 27 meetings with Manchester United stretching back to 1965. The victory was at Old Trafford in 2003.

Like most reasonable commentators here have opined, I think, based on the present indices of performance by the three contending teams, I would actually favour Chelsea ahead of Arsenal.

With the way things are going, especially considering the sedulous way in which Arsenal are continuously sputtering in recent times since losing to us at OT, I think we may have lucently seen the effective eclipse of the rookies that don the accoutrement of Arsenal.

Since the beginning of the season, I have been making a simple reasonable analysis about what is to be expected at this stage of the competition of the championship. Anyone that is not economical with the truth will readily agree that Arsenal are a team replete of relatively good, ambitious players - but who LACK EXPERIENCE.

I do not think anyone cerebrating with his brain will dispute the fact that Chelsea were able to win the league back-to-back in 2006 and 2007 respectively due to the crop of determined, intrepid, agile, confident and EXPERIENCED players in their team, coupled with the charisma of their former masterly coach, Jose Mourinho.

Then, when the heat of the league assumed a frighteningly high temperature, and Chelsea were at the top of the league, the EXPERIENCE and the calibre of the players of the team thermostatically cushioned the effect of the pressure on the team and they were able to considerably keep their cool and won the league convincingly.

This same factor was responsible for Manchester United's victory last season. Apart from the blithering form which Christiano Ronaldo was attuned and the brilliance of the style of play of the team, and of course, the infinite wisdom and cumulative maturity of SAF, Manchester United actually matched to victory on the stream of the EXPERIENCE of their veterans and the collective brilliance of the team.

Any dispassionate and objective observer that has followed the Arsenal team in the past few seasons would corroborate that Cesc Fabregas is the engine-room and the most important player in the Arsenal team. Although I must confess that Cesc is a brilliant player, but nonetheless, his relatively miniature experience and lack of psychological maturity and exposure easily engender him to cracking up.

Given the way Arsenal have been abysmally unimpressive during the course of the season whenever Cesc is unable to find his usual mesmerizing rhythm, it is suffice to say that, Arsenal are really acephalous in the area of inspirational leadership they need on the field of play. To make matters worse, their stand-in captain, William Gallas has evinced himself as a captain who is emotionally immature and he seems to have infused his lack of confidence into the team. You could see the way he was jejunely and theatrically crying against Birmingham last Saturday. No good leader acts like that!

Unlike the days of Patrick Viera, Thiery Henry, Dennis Bergkam, Pires, et al, when resilience was one of the additional weapons that armed the arsenal of Arsenal, the fumbling of this dispirited team in recent times tends to put an imprimatur on the saying that, the days of glory of the Gunners are evanescent.

Indeed, as it is right now, it will only take a miracle for Arsenal to end the season in the second position because Chelsea will most likely emerge as the first runners-up. I don't see Arsenal beating Chelsea at SB neither can they survive their visit to OT. One also needs to remember that one of their most lethal players, Edourado, is out of the season due to injury.

Whereas, Manchester United are looking more and more stronger everyday and Chelsea seem to have been re-galvanized by their loss to Spurs lastweek.

Actually, to be honest, just like Arsenal, Manchester United also still have some tough fixtures ahead, but the strength, confidence, brilliance, resilience and EXPERIENCE of their team indisputably give them an edge over Arsenal.

This is getting too long and I gatto stop here but the fact remains that Manchester United will carry the day.

Its close...the 'Big 4' games wil b crucial IMO. The title can be won and lost in those games. The title may b in Uniteds hands in terms of..winning the game against Arsenal say, but also If Chelsea win their 'top 4' games they can possibly take the title, same goes for Arsenal.
I think United are in a good position with momentum but its hard to say how it will go.

Haha, look back over the years at Man Utd vs Arsenal matches, the majority of incidents were caused by the petulance of Arsenal players

unfortunately not. arsenal are the subject of consistent abuse week in week out on the pitch. this recently culminated in the destruction of eduardo's leg. wenger should have never retracted his comments. arsenal's sexah footy has been all but eliminated the past few games because of persistent physical abuse. something needs to be done.

About happymattblok's post, I think the only thing that needs to be done by Arsenal is score goals when due space is offered and stop picking excuse after excuse. Everybody gets kicked in this game and they still win. The 'invincibles' also played physical games but they scored more goals from the opportunities created, as compared to the current squad, and never lost a single league game.

In case you didnt notice, we created nearly 10 scoring opportunities after Eduardo was sent off, and all were lost due to over-playing and miss kicking of the ball, something that seems to be stemming from the manager's technics and not the opposition's lack of descipline.

That said, I hope ManU dont get too carried away with their 'title in the hand' talk, cause the last time I checked, they had a habit of faltering to us and Chelsea at all the crucial moments during league matches when playing catch-up. They already faltered twice after catching up, I wont be suprised if they did it again, once they start ozing with over confidence rather than confidence.
