Graeme Smith Hits Form

International Tests England

With a busy touring schedule this year for the Proteas it is good to see that Smith is hitting some form. He has just gone on to 150 n.o and is starting to get his form of old back. Now I know it is only against Bangladesh. Last time he toured Bangla he ended the tour with a double and repeated it with back to back doubles against England.

With the India, England and Australia tours looming it is good to see him getting some confidence back.

I also think he is the best captain in world cricket at present taking in consideration that he can never pick the strongest team due to political reasons. He has improved alot since taking over the captaincy.

On a typical docile strip SA did well considering the pitch did not match the home turf.Well done to the team and lets hope they can finish the game off like the previous test in 4 days.SA has the makings of a fine side.It will be an exciting 12 months as they take on the more reputable teams.

showergladiator13, SA lack class as a sporting nation?
What is class as a sporting nation? Football riots, Martin Corey as a rugby captian? Or maybe it's Atherton

Don't believe this should count as a Test World
record ..Bangladesh stats devalue other results

If New Zealand did not win a test between 1929 and 1967, as one the commentators states below, why is the record that has just been broken considered valid? How strong was the NZ attack in 1953. Stats and records are just indicators. Smith's name (and Gibbs for that matter) appears prominently as a partner in high opening partnerships against different opposition. That's the important stat if you want to measure the ability of a player in a particular context.

Great world record however a 180-7 collapse after the feat has to be looked at. Middle order should be finding form as failures for 3 straight innings in Bangladesh, any good really? No!

Ntini takes 4-35 to demolish the tail, and enforce the follow-on....

This is why Ntini has to play for South Africa, IMHO....

To the unfortunate myopic who wrote that SA as a sporting nation 'lack class', I assume you're English and can only direct you to read (assuming that intellectual leap is within your grasp) Will Greenwood's article written in the Telegraph after SA RWC win in France.
No mate of SA, and a feisty customer on the field, Greenwood's articulate summing up of SA's 'class' during the whole tournament and exemplary conduct at the awards ceremony, once and for all laid to rest the disgrace of Corne Krige's Twickers shame, and is a comment on the way that country now approaches sport.
To bring things into the cricket arena, compare SA's conduct in recent times to the sad antics between Oz and India, and indeed... the utterings of that lofty oaf, Kevin Pietersen.
Oh... he's a saffer? Nope - the Brits fell over themselves to give him a 'passport to play'... what does THAT say about class and discernment?
