*** FT - BOLTON 1-3 LIVERPOOL ***

Premier League Liverpool
comment on the article

This is the thread to discuss BOLTON WANDERERS V LIVERPOOL in the Premier League.

Liverpool put on a classy performance to move up to fourth place in the Premier League, with a great win over Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok.

Liverpool went a goal ahead, after Steven Gerrard's shot, that appeared to be going a couple of yards wide, bounced in of Bolton goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen's head.

Bolton had started brightly in the first ten minutes, hitting the crossbar, and having one headed off the line.

Liverpool dominated the first half after they took a 1-0 lead, and couldn't get that second goal before half-time, that would have killed off Bolton.

Liverpool came out well in the second half, and Ryan Babel made it 2-0 on the hour, after Steven Gerrard's shot bounced back off the post, Babel scored from the rebound.

Bolton were struggling as Liverpool continued to press for more goals, and Fabio Aurelio scored with his first Premier League goal this season, with a wonder strike, a volley into the top corner, from 18 yards.

Within four minutes, Bolton had a glimmer of hope, after Timir Cohen scored from a corner with a header, after Reina failed to get to the ball first.

Liverpool are now momenterally up to fourth in the Premier League, with Everton and Portsmouth meeting at Goodison Park at 4pm.

i have to agree. we arent consistant enough, our 'squad' is good enough to be battling for 3rd and not yet the title.
I dont understand why other fans have to come on here slating us though, im not having a go because im sure others do it to them but leave us in peace?
I know we havent won the league for a long time and it is about time we stopped talking about being the best club in English history but like it or lump it that crown will be taken away soon of we dont get our act together. Stop argueing about CL or PL, we should be challenging for both.

I'm a Bolton fan at the game yesterday and Liverpool showed yesterday that they can win without being pretty. They got stuck in and really showed what they are made of, something that i've never seen them do at the Reebok.

The reason Chelsea won the title on the 2nd occasion was because they knew how to grind out results and win games where they weren't convincing.

If Liverpool can sort out a settled spine to their first team and get into a winning mentality then they can definetly be challenging for the Prem next season.

With away performances like yesterday they can go to any team besides the top three and win the majority of their games and that wasn't Liverpool at their best yesterday, but they got the job done.

Maybe Rafa is getting a feel for how to approach games in the Prem and has a much better outstanding of each team in the Prem.

I don't think Liverpool did play well! First half they were particularly poor, with lots of misplaced passes and no real desire to push forward. In fact, I'd go as far as to say the first half was miserable, poor quality and very bad to watch.

They scored three, but didn't really have to do much to do that. Bolton were very negative and showed little desire to want to win.

It's just that Liverpool had the quality in the end to take a few chances. But if they play like that against better sides, they'd struggle.

Did you watch the game or were you there? I was there and as a neutral it was a terrible game. Full credit to the Bolton Hospitality, what a lovely pre match meal we all enjoyed prior to the game. 3-1 flatters! Watched the highlights on MOD and looked like a completely diffrent game what with the action replays and bummed up commentery. Just goes to show that the EPL is so so over rated. Bring back minimum english players and the art of a good tackle from a top defender. Not a defender merrited because he has "pace".

Hear hear, Scot!

I only saw MotD and it looked like Bolton didn't have a defence, which I'm sure we had over the past few matches...
I don't see how this win is a surprise, however, what with both teams' current situation.

papageo8 - i read that article this morning and also thought it was very good.

I just really wish we could chat on here without WUMs coming on and taking the pi$$.

I don't think any serious liverpool fans are saying "We're going to win the league next year" based on a win at Bolton! (just as we weren't after beating Derby!) but you can't even come on here and be pleased with a result without the bloody man u and chelsea brigade turning up and starting the slating!

So instead of having a discussion with fellow fans about results and thoughts on the game and the team, it just ends up as a slanging match.

Its getting really tiresome now!

OK then we'll see if we do or don't. If we do win; shame on you. If we dont win, I put my hands up. And if Chelsea win nothing to top my first comment off; shame on you again.
