Linford Christie

Linford Christie will not carry the Olympic torch when it comes to London in April.

It was understood Christie, banned by the British Olympic Association after failing a drugs test, had received an invite from Mayor Ken Livingstone.

The Greater London Authority has confirmed the names of three of the 80 bearers - Kelly Holmes, newscaster Sir Trevor McDonald and actress Amara Khan.

What are your views on this? Do you think Christie should have been involved?

You can spint all that over stuff and its still worth £50 a gram.

I say give the torch to a bunch of fatties to highlight the obesity problem. You would obviously need more of them to make up the distance as they couldnt run very far.

Some probably couldnt run at all

Is anybody surprised? Ken has tried to ingratiate himself with all manner of controversial individuals during his political career, why should he stop now. If Christie had any morals he would decline outright the invitation. HE IS discredited, I for one, always thought he was using drugs,a suspicion confirmed to me by an aspiring athlete who refused to join a certain training group because he would have been given performance enhancing substances. Anybody banned from the olympics by the BOA must not be allowed to have any connection at all. A proper example must be set before the general public lose all faith in athletics.

"Maybe if you support each other and build up a strong community you may become good at some sport."

I take it from your post you mean one built around cheating?

There’s a lot of rhetoric on this page, but the facts are simple; in addition to his 1988 positive test for pseudoephedrine, he was found guilty of using Nandrolone in 1999 and given a two year ban.

There’s no question he as a good athlete during his career, maybe even great; however his 1999 conviction and subsequent ban will forever be his legacy.

Total Rubbish - Why do people consistently get on this rediculous band-wagon of knocking christie and chambers? It's crazy. They served their time in ban's. That's the end of it. They are still amazing atheltes and deserve every opportunity in the future to do what they please, within existing rules.
