England women start well in NZ

After their tremendous victory over Australia in the women's Ashes Test last week, the England team have made a winning start to the second leg of their tour in New Zealand.

They beat New Zealand A by 97 runs and were boosted by the return of strike bowler Katherine Brunt after a long battle to overcome a serious back problem.

Their five-match one-day series against New Zealand starts on Sunday and the home side will be without two or three key players.

So how do you think England will fare? Can they keep the winning momentum going and round off their winter activities in style?

First of all may I add my congratulations to those posted under R. Birch's blog? I have tried many times to contribute to the blog comments, in vain. All I ever get is "502 - Service not available" - and I don't know why.

However, to the matter in hand. This series against NZ is crucual for three reasons:

1. We owe NZ a beating for their series victory in England last summer.

2. As Charlotte Edwards said recently, the Ashes victory will count for less if we lose in NZ.

3. We want to be the team no-one fancies playing in next year's World Cup.

Apart from that, all cricketing Brits will be happy to see K. Brunt back in action. R. Birch too is one who has had her share of injury, but seems to be fighting fit now.

Unfortunately for NZ, as Paul G points out, a few key players are out of action. No-one likes to see that. However, even without the dangerous Millikin, NZ did the business last summer - and that should not be forgotten.

I like the style of this team. Isa Guha seems to be on a roll (long may that continue), C. Taylor has hit form and C. Edwards is proving a motivated and canny captain.

S. Taylor is due a score and the middle order needs more consistency. I have every confidence that every team member will be giving 100% at Lincoln.

Go, women, go!

Hmmmmm. Not so good! - Well, we began badly in Australia and NZ are a tough outfit, as we found out last summer. One thing is sure. Charlotte Edwards won't be sitting back doing nothing. She'll be working out how to put this lapse right.

btw. - No scorecard?

Buenisimo!!!!!!! Many congratulations to the team on this outstanding victory. I'm not singling out anyone. It looks to me as if this team has it together.

(Old men like me always have cautionary words, but C. Edwards will not need me to tell her the job's not done yet.)

So heads down and here's to another victory on Thursday!

Another fantastic win in New Zealand. Not much Press coverage once again but I guess it because it the Womens Team probably classes as a minority result. It shouldnt matter whether its the Ladies or Mens team should get the same coverage but I guess thats the way of the world

Two-one up! Outstanding! I'm inclined to whoop, but let's wait for the weekend.

We definitely don't want 2 draws. Give us just one more victory, please - and the every woman in the squad can return to UK more than a little pleased with herself.
