The Bell Report on Ski Sunday - part six

comment on the article

Hi everyone, here's what's coming up on Ski Sunday this week (24 February, 1900-2000, BBC Two and BBC Sport website), all the latest news from the slopes; plus comments about your reactions to the new series.

For those of you who have been enjoying the show, thanks for the positive comments.

In this week’s show Ed travels to that country well known for its vast fields of untracked powder – err Morocco.

I visit the Eagles Nest on my Alpine trek.

Built by Himmler as a 50th birthday present for Hitler, it is accessed by an elevator and situated on top of a cliff, not the best present for someone who was claustrophobic and scared of heights.

Called the Kehlsteinhaus in German, it is often confused with the Berghaus where the famous Adolf and Eva Braun footage was taken. Suspecting that Hitler may have been holed up there, the Berghaus got a proper seeing to by the RAF at the end of the war.

This week’s celebrity is BBC Sport's Clare Balding. One 606 comment asked for more of the lesson, and less of the race. Just wait until you see Clare skiing with a pink balloon clutched between her knees!

The ski racing this week is from Whistler, site of the 2010 Olympic Games.

The men will race a super-G on the redesigned Dave Murray downhill and the women will race on the new Franz’s run. Both courses meet in a joint finish area.

Bode Miller will be looking to increase his advantage on Benni Raich in the overall World Cup, but he has not been too consistent this discipline so far this season.

In the women’s downhill, Lindsay Vonn of the USA has been unstoppable lately, although her biggest test may come from the local Canadian skiers Britt Janyk and Kelly Vanderbeek.

Don't forget we have extended coverage from Whistler on BBCi straight after the show from 2000 onwards.

Best wishes
Graham

ah yes, sarcasm, the lowest form of wit. ski'god'derek = more sarcasm, well done.
My point is I'm sick of comments that pick up on utterly irrelevant features on the rubbish new ski sunday. Do you really think 'normal' people give two tosses about an overpaid beeb presenter's garb? but then on top of all the travel features, celeb features and almost total lack of winter sports coverage why not have a fashion feature to dumb down even further

callcentremunkey - why is it that you think that yours is the only opinion that matters? I would have thought that working in a call centre would have drained your ego to virtually zero, not enhanced it.

Josiek, if you look back at Graham's articles you will notice that MANY people do not like the new format and are thoroughly p'ed off at the lack of competitive action. The only egos at stake here belong to Ed and Graham who week in week out take up screen time that could be put to showing highlights.

And yet you choose to ignore the MANY people who write that they like the show - that's ego.

It's not ego, not that I really care either way, my comments are bourne out of pure exasperation. Fact is, the new ski sunday is painfully short of actual winter sports coverage, regardless of ego, you can't deny that.

I LOVE GRAHAM! anyway back to the point of my comment. I don't know how much spare time you have, callcentremonkey spelt wrong! but we got the picture on your first comment that you don't like the way the show is developping, however many of us do, so no offence but if you don't like it no need for the online arguments caus to be honest they are much worse than the deviating ski sunday show (which i happen to love) so why don't you just give up and leave space for people to leave more joyous and positive comments and feedback. From a 15 yr old school girl who would really like to find out the answer to the original question: why can't i watch ski sunday on the BBC iPlayer because i missed most of tonights episode sadface

Love the new format and am really shocked at the vitriol shown by some viewers... Personally I can't think of anything worse than members of the public doing the 'celeb' ski racing ..... think X Factor on skis!!!! (that really would NOT be fair on Graham - so much more fun watching him with Fiona and TPT!!!) I really enjoyed seeing Graham coaching and picked up lots of tips; definitely one of the best parts of the programme. It was a very brave step to make such a radical change to a well-loved programme so huge congrats for that. Eight programmes was nowhere near enough, so more programmes, more ski racing and more techniques from Graham please.biggrin

PS: Graham, you're the presenter, don't let Ed take over!!!!! winkeye

During last series the guys raced each other between two resorts. Graeme went via pisted routes, Ed went off piste. They started in Tignes I think. Where did they start and finish?
