Brits secure Olympic diving places.

comment on the article

Divers Nick Robinson-Baker and Ben Swain have secured Great Britain an Olympic place in the men's 3m synchro.

The pairing defied the odds to finish fourth at the FINA World Cup at 2008 Olympic venue the Water Cube.

National performance director Steve Foley said: "They are a relatively new team and what they've done is amazing."

The national qualifiers to decide who will compete at Beijing are not until later in the year - but should Robinson-Baker and Swain go?

Hi Chris

I will admit ignorance to the selection system for the Olympic games, but I do find it rather odd that the individuals who win the place have won it for their country and not themselves.

But I can see the logic in picking those who are most likely to win a medal in Beijing so whoever's on form nearer the time would be the best divers for the job. However, I would hope that the athletes who won the place get to go to Beijing.

I love diving so will cheer on whoever gets to go!

I hope the young Mr. D earns a place at Beijing by right and am hopeful he will - but, whether he does or not, he definitely deserves to get to go to the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010.
