Celtic follow Barca road to success

European Football
comment on the article

Just recently, the Barcelona academy has produced some truly wonderful footballers.

Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Giovani dos Santos, Bojan Krkic, as well as Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas, Everton's Mikel Arteta and Manchester United's Gerard Pique have all come from the Barca cantera.

It is refreshing that in modern day football, one of the richest and most powerful clubs in the world can have so much success producing players on their own doorstep.

Sure, they have the pick of the scouts and have the funds and the name to attract the best kids in the world. But you do not educate and nurture and help players of the genius of Messi fulfil their potential simply by throwing cash at them.

Part of the reason Barcelona are a club of such repute is because they make sure they get it right at every level.

Which is something Celtic have endeavoured to do with the building of their multi-million pound new complex at Lennoxtown.

In Aiden McGeady, the Bhoys have the perfect example for their aspiring young players to follow - a footballer of terrific technique and with an end product to boot.

Most football fans would swap all the money in the world for a team of top-class homegrown, largely local players.

Congratulations to Barca and Celtic for not losing sight of the traditions and heritage that helped make them great clubs.

Jahstovies
what happened during the regime does not concern me nor has anything to do with the people who I refer to as we were not alive.

Referring to the past isn´t productive and shouldn´t be used to justify attitudes in the present.
So when plastic Barça fans say that espanyol is a "fascist club" you have to say, yeh, 60 years ago. And now? If they reply yes well, I´m pretty sure it´s not okay to call the Germans and Italians fascists based upon events a generation in the past.

What do events in Les Cortes during the regime, or screw it, the 1640-1649 rebellion if you want, have to do with 20 year old "hardcore" cules? Thise shouting visça catalunya and honestly honestly honestly beleiving that they are some sort of anti-fascist army or perhaps God´s Chosen People.

I know an Espanyol fan in Girona who told me quote "being a Perico here is like 1980s South Africa. People treat you like the enemy".

So, the simplistic ideology is Laporta going on marches for any cause with a yellow and red flag and planting catalan flags in central african countries. Just because he says Barcelona represent catalonia and people read mundo deportivo, doesnt mean it´s true.

One day people in world at large will open their eyes. It´s not until you´re physically discriminated yourself you actually realise what´s going on in the offices and press department of camp nou...

Castle Greyskulls,

Dick Advocaat is considered as a defensive coach in Holland and obsessed by money not by football. He's not worthy to be called a proponent of the Dutch School. It's about culture. Ajax, Michels, Cruyff, Barca, Van Basten, Rijkaard, Bergkamp, Brilliant Orange, that's right!

As for Rangers, only Ronald de Boer can be considered Dutch School but he was way below his best when arriving at Ibrox.

Are you an Ajax fan by any chance Lairedion ?
Surely Holland has produced some good players, coaches, systems that do not have an Ajax connection ??

bofella. Players? Yes, Van Hanegem, Gullit, Van Persie is promising and exciting if he's not injured all the time, the poor guy. Coaches? Yes, Guus Hiddink. Good systems? Depends the way you see it. PSV has a quite successful system but boring to watch. Which brings us back to the essence, both Ajax and Barca fans obviously want success but only with attractive football. Fans want to be entertained with squads, primarily filled with homegrown (domestic or foreign doesn't matter) talent, playing attacking, technical football. It's virtually impossible to uphold this in the post-Bosman era for clubs operating in smaller competitions like Ajax. Barca does not have this disadvantage and their model of socios is indeed excellent. That to me says it all. cool

re castle greyskulls:

As for the Hibs fan. Well what do you expect? This will always happen. The same as when English clubs with more money come in for our players ala Hutton.

yikes was that in reference to me? cos im not a hibs fan!
(i was merely acknowledging them!)

You are getting deep into politics now and I can tell you for a fact that this is just NOT TRUE!erm
I have a Catalan friend who owns a bar here and he told me that his grandfather and various other family members are Espanyol fans and it is a Catalan club, not a Castillano speaking facist club,if you like I'll tell you the address of the bar and his name and you can go and ask him the next time you're in Barcelona.
As for youth players, none of them are born and bred Catalans, are they, apart from Fabregas, who they lost? They are just brought in from other countries, mainly South America as youth team players showing promise.ok

_______________

Your comment is completey off track. doh He has a bad rep in Scotland, for management also.

Like him or not it was his idea for the youth academy at Rangers and it was based on Dutch models. That is a fact.

Your comments are a bit pointless. Are you saying it wasn't his idea to build a youth academy based on the Dutch models or something? You can tell you are Dutch, you need to lighten up a bit and stop being so serrious. doh

As for my comment regarding 'the Hibs fan'. Well, my mistake. ok

Lampard, R.Ferdinand, Carrick and Cole would all get in the Barca team.

While maybe Iniesta and Messi definitely would get in the West Ham team.
