Irons and Collins for Cappielow

Scottish League Morton
comment on the article

David Irons and Derek Collins have left struggling Gretna to take over at err... struggling Morton.
Collins will get a warm reception at his old club but are they the men to lead The Mighty 'Ton to safety?

I don't like this appointment. I don't think this will save Morton from relegation. It looks like a panic decision to me.

I think this is massively unfortunate for everyone.

I think most people expected the Gretna "fairytale" to end at some stage but you wouldn't want that at a time when Brookes is in such a bad way.

I have no issue with Irons and his right to persue another job other than the timing which totally stinks.

I just think its incredibly sad for all concerned.

That shows your ignorance about teams like us riteagain. Morton,Partick Thistle,St Johnstone,Dundee and even sides in the leagues below like Raith Rovers have always had pretty good fanbases when our towns and districts are constantly dealing with fighting the flow of Old Firm fans who swamp us at a ratio of 5:1.

I sincerely hope that Brooks Mileson pulls through this dreadful time for him. As for Gretna itself? I wouldnt wish the implosion of a football club on anyone, but it was only the cash of Mr Mileson that attracted the players to demolish their way to the SPL. The second division is a level the Gretna fans should be happy with, considering they were splashing around in the Unibond League year in, year out.

I am a Morton supporter and disappointed in the new managerial appointment. Mr Irons has a more than inadequate CV from Gretna and Huddersfield. All Buddies fans must be rolling about the floor laughing. If Dougie Rae thinks that the Morton fans gave McInally a hard time from the terraces - give it a couple of matches and Irons will be next!

I thought Dougie Rae was ridiculous pointing the finger at the fans after McInally's dreadful home record.

Who did he sign at the start of the season again?

Adam Coakley...off to Alloa already.

Michael Gardyne... returned to Ross County after a handful of games.

Jay Shields.. off to Cowdenbeath after a handful of games aswell.

And what about his signings in January?

Brian Wake.. not good enough for Gretna or Hamilton, 3 goals in 24 appearances in a mid-table side last year, but, yeah he'll do for a side whose goal ratio is as dry as an August afternoon in the sahara desert.

Ryan McGuffie.. I can't believe we got him says Jim, a player who was surplus to requirements at the worst performing SPL side in many a year, not the second coming of Aidan McGeady.

Way to tell your supporters that basically we aint big enough to sign SPL rejects.

Jim Duffy was the only guy I wanted for the job, but Dougie Rae's mindset says it all... I know whats best better than the fans do.

I wish Davie Irons all the best for the rest of the season but i'm 100% sure Jim Duffy was the right manager for Morton.

At time of this comment, the article shows that there have been 21 comments! I didn't think that Greenock Morton had that many fans.

It would be more, except for all the glory hunters like yourself that jump onto the nearest bus to glasgow on a saturday.

To MortonBoy83 & ebu:

My comment about Morton's fan base was meant to be tongue-in-cheek humour/sarcasm. No offense meant. You two need to smile and smell the roses.

p.s. I can't stand the "Old Firm" either.
