It's neither the 1st nor the 2nd time Roger Federer gets the 'World Sportsman of the Year' award; in fact, he got it for the fourth consecutive time:
Men:
2000 Tiger Woods
2001 Tiger Woods
2002 Michael Schumacher
2003 Lance Armstrong
2004 Michael Schumacher
2005 Roger Federer
2006 Roger Federer
2007 Roger Federer
2008 Roger Federer

Hail to the King, I say! Loosen his grip on the game he will, but slowly and in style! Congrats, roj! Looking forward to the rest of the season!

It should have clearly gone to Tom Brady (New England Patriots NFL quarterback). Looks like this award is totally biased towards Europeans. Wonder why they call it "world sports awards".

No offence pal but American Egg ball is exactly what it says on the tin,AMERICAN ONLY.

I know you guys across the pond think that any sportsperson you have in any sport is automatically the best in the world but that is not the case especially when its a sport which is effectively played in ONE country.

I hate to break it to you guys but the world does NOT revolve around you, regardless of how much you think it does.

I hope Roger Federer goes on to win the French Open and eclipse every tennis record he can! He is a class act and seems like an all round level headed decent bloke.

A very nice fillip for Federer, particularly given his AO exit.

-The interview he gave revealed a slightly sensitive Federer but his subsequent statement of intent re going on to play til he's 35 (contra Murray's silly comment on Federer's demise) seems to show that he's thinking positively [again]).

-Interesting that Djoko didn't get best promising newomer etc.

Best Sports Impressionist -a category for next year?

-I mean, what must his parents think? -Well, really!

-Now, what do you think caused the voters to pass him over in preference to Hamilton who calmly handled the Alonzo business. Hamilton pipped Nadal also as, I suppose, you can't be the best newcomer twice in a row. -Makes sense.

-Are Djoko's impressions & family antics already/ finally costing him, you have to wonder.

Believe me, by the time Roger Federer retires he would have won the French Open i believe there is a first time for everything, who is to say he will never beat Nadal in a french open final. This is the greatest player ever he will find a way to win it.

..............................................

Pathetic.
Grow up - you may not like golf as a sport, but to question Tiger Woods as a great sportsman and even to say that Phil Taylor is greater is..well, I can't really put it into words.

You may have written it just to envoke some controversy, but really, you just end up looking quite sad.
