So it is Nigel Pearson then! (Saints Website)

Now let's get behind him and give him full support for the foreseeable future.

spurs fan here in peace

thought dowie or glenn hoddle would be appionted, nigal pearson that is an odd appiontment. still if martin jol(with no mangerial experience) could lead spurs into uefa cup positions two years straight, then i think nigal pearson given time cud get the club promoted. if the club stays up the season(probably will) pearson defiantly needs to be given some cash, not alot, but enough that could stregnthen the squad and challenge for promotion. suprised though, the saints didnt approach martin jol, oh well good luck pearson!!!

Toon Fan in peace

I'm sorry you got Pearson.

He was basically told to leave NUFC because he was leaking things to the press, and was sewing discontent publicly.

Oddly enough, Newcastle awful on-pitch performances have been around ever since he was appointed as Roeders assistant.

His press conferences (he did all of Sams BBC & post match talks) we're dull dull dull, and it was *never* the teams fault, always some mitigating circumstances.

As for being a hard man, I think it's more that he is an inflexible, awkward man. He ceratinly won't take any carp, but he also won't listen to people. A hadful of results under him and you may see some Allardyce-style arrogance creep in too.

I hope he does well for you guys, but you really deserve better.

Wedenesday fan here. I have to say this ridiculous. The bloke's not even taken charge yet. Given half a chance he'll do a very good job for southampton. Unless, of course, you treat him like you did Paul Sturrock. I'm afraid it's time for Saints fans to go through the same learning process that Wednesday fans had to. That is A) you're not a big club, B) you've got no god given right to get promoted again and C) pretty football isn't what you need right now.

As for the comments from the Newcastle fan, blaming Pearson is laughable. What about Terry Mac, he's been there the entire time??

No matter how good a player he might have been, Nigel Pearson has little managerial experience and being a number 2 is a world away from managing a club. Southampton"s board have again taken what can only be described as a strange decision, as there are many out there with proven managerial skills who would have been a much better option and one that would make the fans far happier and far more confident for future success So Mr babyfullpint, don't mix playing prowess with managerial skill - they don't even appear on the same hymn sheet!

This guy may or may not know tactics. Who knows?

Personally i don't care. The one vital ingredient that's been missing from ALL of our players since Southampton played under Gordon Strachan is FITNESS.

If Pearson can do what Strachan did for our players and Ramos has done for the Spurs team then he will have my full backing. I'm not asking for him to perform miracles and get us to cup finals and mid-table prem etc.... just get "professional" footballers fit enough to play 90 minutes of football (including the odd sprint Euell!).

I think they look appallingly out of shape right now and it's something i can see no excuse for. Supreme fitness will yield supreme table position. I just hope Pearson knows what he's doing.
