Do you think governments should stay out of football?

It's a Football Association election, and it's not been called by the FA but the government, in other words the government is interefring in football procedure.

As for replacement, I think it'd most likely be the team who came third in their qualification group, would seem the most logical step - namely Northern Ireland.

Hopefully this incident can be reolved without banishing spain! Its not the fault of the spanish players or fans!

However, should they be removed from Euro 08, the most logical replacment would be Northern Ireland as the next highest scorers in Spains group!

Fifa set a precident for this whole thing back in 1992, when they banned Yugoslavia from Euro 92, they then gave Denmark the place in the finals, because they finished below Yugoslavia in qualifying.

So as it stands Northern Ireland would go to Euro 2008.

But I can't find any information on how Fifa worked it out in 1992.

As there are two logical ways to work it out, and I don't know which one Fifa used.

As in 1992, using both of these methods would have resulted in Denmark going through.

1) The team that finished in the next qualifying position in the group replaces Spain.

In this instance it's Northern Ireland.

Or

2) As Spain have been kicked out of the competition, then they could rule that all the matches that Spain played are Void and don't count, and then they work out who goes up from the other results.

I've worked this out and the table would look like this :

Sweden 23 pts
Denmark 20 pts
N.Ireland 17 pts
Latvia 12 pts
Iceland 7 pts better goal diference
Liechtenstein 7 pts

So in this scenario Denmark would finish 2nd and go to Euro 2008?

I hope they do get thrown out. If they do it will leave the door open, hopefully for as stugotz1000 says a third rate nation (Northern Ireland) to take their place.

I think they will work this out as in the team that finishes third will go through as in Northern Ireland, and Im sure everyone on here would agree, it would be nice to have a 'home nation' at the championships this year as all the 'home nations' must be third rate for not qualifying but at least this way we will have something to cheer about smiley

I still haven't seen any way in which England would be selected to take the place of Spain.

Anyone?

"The real issue here is not whether some third rate footballing nation will take Spains place at Euro 2008 but what a dictator Blatter is."

Yes a third rate team thats beaten both Spain & Sweden....
