Would you welcome McClaren to your club?

Steve McClaren could be forgiven for turning his back on football following the abuse and opprobrium he suffered during his 18-month reign as England coach.

Yet, little more than two months after being sacked by the Football Association, the 46-year-old is desperate to return.

He is looking for a club with "vision and ambition", be it "abroad, in the second division or in the Championship".

It might be an understatement to say that McClaren's stock is not high following his failure to lead England to Euro 2008.

Yet it can easily be argued that this is a manager with a lot to offer.

He claims to be a better manager following his time with England.

And his record with Middlesbrough was largely impressive. He won the Carling Cup, the club's first major trophy, and led them to their highest finish in the Premier League and the final of the Uefa Cup.

He's spent his time away from football attending coaching seminars alongside the likes of Marcello Lippi, and watching sessions at giants such as Barcelona.

His management style might have been compared unfavourably with disciplinarian successor Fabio Capello, but McClaren makes no apology for being a "player-oriented coach".

And surely the problems with the England team go deeper than the manager.

McClaren points out that the lack of English players in the Premiership and the poor technique of our players compared with many of their compatriots are hindering the national team.

So there's the case for the defence.

How would you feel if McClaren was appointed manager of your club?

He's got enough money - he could rehabilitate himself by working for nothing -or next to nothing to help out financially screwed clubs like Luton or Bournemouth.

If i was him i reckon thats what id do, your rich, but you cant get a big club, find a club with financial problems, preferably not in the championship, become manager, work for free, try and turn their fortunes around, if u succeed your a saint and a miracle worker, if you fail your still a saint and you win the hearts of the people, thus becoming a more viable option for big sides looking for a new man if charge.

I think McLaren lost the last ounce of credability he had by not walking away from the England job after he failed to get us to the Euros. When Keegan messed up, he was a big enough man to walk away before losing his job. Ok, he probably lost a million or two.. But he would go on to still be an employable manager and make back those millions anyway. McLaren was never going to walk away from the compensation of having his contract terminated.. Sorry Steve, your greed and lack of managerial experise means you will get no sympathy from me. Thanks for your help in getting MUFC the treble in 1999.. but now, I think you should leave football alone.

To be fair Mclaren couldnt put a pair of boots on and get on that pitch himself, im not disputing the fact that he got it all wrong, and got a lot of bad publicity for that, but for me the players didn't get half the blame that he got. Sven took us as far as he possibly could and hes worked wonders at City, so Mclaren should definitely try the lower tiers of English Football, to regain some credibility, he took the England job too early in his managerial career

I wouldn't take McClown at my team, I'd be worried he'd spend all day scouting and negotiating a deal for Stewart Downing.

If it wasn't for McClown, Man Utd would have done the quadruple in 1999. I could've been assistant to such a great team and manager as that one and done no worse. Easiest job in the world.

Please please please do not let McClown anywhere near Plymouth Argyle. It would be like the kiss of death.I am convinced that Beckham would not have gone to LA if not for Steve McClaren.
