I watched the game on Sky and we looked well worth a draw yesterday but the penalty made David james look good! It was perfect for him..all you can say is that the guy dived the right way..was it luck or does he know how to watch the body language of the striker?

Anyway....I agree James played excellent when shot stopping yesterday, but his distribution was very very poor. If a guy wants to play for England then every part of his game has to be top class. Don't get me wrong, I wish we had him but quite a few of his throws went to PNE players yesterday.

As for the game in general, if PNE had a 20 goal a season player then we would have got a draw yesterday for sure. We did play very very well second half but goals are what counts and we didnt score any.

As for wild4fp....what planet are you on mate? I thought the football from PNE was good yesterday. if that reminds you of John Beck I really believe you have a bad memory or are actually a Blackpool fan in disguise looking to stir a bit.

Up the whites and thankyou to the Pompey fans for your kind words.

"I also thought Mellor should have took the penalty not Whaley."

He was on the subs bench when the spot-kick was awarded.

That was a Morecambe fan with that comment.

My point was if AI was going to put Mellor on (and he did) within minutes of the penalty, why not make the substitution and put on the only player that has scored a penalty for us this season?

All the so called experts were tipping pompey to win this easily, do they not learn that the fa cup gives teams a real lift.
just ask barnsley, havant & waterlooville to name but 2!!!
pompey played poorly for 93 minutes against a team who are a league below them and are struggling themselves in that league
you give away a pemalty, which was well saved
The game looks like going to a replay and then you win it with an own goal that was later seen to be hand ball in the build up
All that aside Pompey will be one of the teams in the hat for the quarter final draw today
we haven't played well in all 3 of our FA cup ties this season so maybe with a good draw we can go all the way!!!
Play Up Pompey

I think most fans ( who've been knocked out obviously!!) would not begrudge Portsmouth a bit of luck. As a Spurs fan I hope they go all the way.

Portsmouth drawing Man Utd away sums up North Ends luck. I wouldn't mind if it was a real goal but to lose by blatant handball makes me sick.

From the Lancashire Evening Post:

Darren Carter's stoppage-time own goal was the third time in four matches Irvine's side had fallen to a last-gasp strike.

Premier League referee Mike Dean failed to spot the ball coming off Pompey defender Hermann Hreidarsson's arm before it was sliced into the roof of the net by the Preston midfielder.

Amazingly, the Icelander was actually trying to claim the goal today, insisting: "It's definitely mine. Their player tried to clear it and kicked it into the net. But it was already going in.

Right, got it off my chest. Well done Pompey. Time for a beer.

Pete, I dont think for one minute the Referee would have allowed PNE to make a substitution prior to the penalty being taken.
Also had the Referee allowed it and Mellor missed???, can you imagine the comments re AI.
No its just one of those things, but it was an awful attempt.

I am still surprised that Mellor was not playing from the start, as if he had have played IMO PNE could have won this game.

Well played PNE but even after the draw MU away i still think Pompeys name is on the CUP, the last time we beat you in the cup we won it
