And Stenson 4 up through 7 in the 3rd place game. Back into the top 10 for Henrik.

The so called "mickey-mouse" tournament has survived for 44 years - (yes I know future sponsorship is under threat at the moment).

The first was won by Arnold Palmer in 1964 and other winners include Player/Nicklaus/Weiskopf/Irwin/Seve/Norman/Faldo/Woosie/Lyle/Els/Singh & Monty - not exactly a roll call of selling platers.

I have no argument with people considering Tiger the Matchplay daddy - but please don't denigrate a great tournament and the achievements of those that won it.

The Accenture is another made for TV "World" Championship that the Americans love to roll out - along with Baseball/Basketball & Football (NFL style). This week's tournament appears to have been played in front of thousands of cacti and numerous rattlesnakes - oh, and countless couch potatoes.

I am not a total traditionalist mired in the past, but matchplay golf was around before 1999 (Accenture's first year) and only an appreciation of the past can lead to admiration of current players.

Oh - by the way - Tiger managed to get his private jet here for the 2006 "Mickey Mouse" tournament - and lost 4 & 3 in the first round to that giant of the game - Shaun Micheel.

See - Ernie ain't the only one to fall at the first hurdle.

Well Tiger wins...the WGC slam smiley

Still, its a woeful matchplay record only 3 wins from 10. 33.333% championship win rate and its' nothing special. A blemish in Tigers career. (not my words though) laugh

3 WGC matchplay titles fom 10 attempts.

Anyone else won more in 10 attempts?

Anyone else won more than 1 at all?

Exactly what Dj states ... if you don't consider Tiger the matchplay "daddy" who do you consider? And don't get hung up on the word "World" (much less take a pitiful jab at the Americans), just consider the strength of field at this tournament to any at Wentworth in the past 20 years.

Shotrock - didn't argue with Woods status - and as for "pitiful" jab at Americans - have lived in the USA for 15 years and can comment from that position as I wish - rather than those who comment always at arms length.

Oh - didn't Tiger miss attending one of the WGC matchplay competitions?

Which means 3 titles in 9 attempts.

I cant actually believe how awesome Tiger Woods really is. People forget how much he plays to protect a lead. If he really wanted to - stoke play or matchplay, he could win by far bigger margins than he does if he really wanted to.

That approach to the 11th to 2 feet to tie up another WGC title said it all. His distance control is beyond words.

Martin - Whether you've been in the States for 5 days or 15 years, I still think you're taking an unfair jab. Living here, you should know it's a diverse and geographically spread out country. Professional golf is much more about TV revenue than gate revenue. And yes, I generally sit on a couch when I watch TV. Much more comfortable than an all wood Queen Anne's chair! I travel to the UK frequently (I'm a partner in a joint venture in suburban London), but that doesn't make it right that I feed into the stereotype on the state of dental care or the "make the best of a bad situation" attitude.

Now, back to golf. Do you honestly think the WGC matchplay field isn't far stronger than the Wentworth field?
