Live - Ghana v Ivory Coast

Africa Cup of Nations
comment on the article

Akwaaba - welcome - to the final that everybody (bar Cameroon and Egypt) wanted. In the deformed shape of a third-place play-off.

Host nation Ghana, obviously, desperately wanted to make the final on home soil - and I'm sure tournament organisers Caf thought likewise. Didn't happen.

Even when Ghana went out, most locals cheered for neighbours Ivory Coast to abruptly dismiss Egypt in the second semi. Didn't happen.

Additionally, most of the (largely European-led) media purred over the Ivory Coast's Premier League stars and rushed to predict that the Elephants would emerge winners. Didn't happen.

So what we are left with is frankly bizarre.

A massive game - kind of - between two teams fighting for the most inconsequential of prizes.

If winning is everything, and second is nothing - then what's third place I ask you? Please, tell me. Does this match matter?.....

But enough negativity. Whether it matters and whether we can enjoy it are totally different things. So let's do just that.

No doubt, the idolised Michael Essien and new hero Junior Agogo will be pumped up to prove that Ghana should be playing tomorrow.

And Ivory Coast - ripped apart by Egypt - will be looking to heal their wounds and simply ooze class when on song.

So: WHO is going to win? WHERE are you following the action?

Any other random nuggets of information you care to throw into the mix, please do.

Quite simply, GET INVOLVED!

Ive watched nearly every game in the tournament, i have no ethnic links to africa, i just really enjoy watching it, very open play, some amazing goals and i love that football.
I did a sweepstakes with some friends, and i got Ivory coast so i don't get the money, but it was still a great laugh!

... Do we have any chance to get to the 1/4 finals in the next world cup to be played in South Africa? My honest answer is No.

My dear friend don't dispair. Come 2010, I have a strong conviction there will be not 1, but 2 African teams in the Semi's -- Before you dismiss me as a dreamer, I beg that you write this down and remember this day, for surely, history will be made.

It was interesting to see the celebrations of the Ghanaian players and fans after the final whistle. They seemed really pleased with themselves. The Eagles have won 3 bronze medals in the last 3 tournaments away from home, on each occasion, it meant absolutely nothing to them or Nigerians back home.

Considering this is the way you motivate your players,I'm not surprised they r now under performing. We are not happy we lost only 1 match by a lone goal and couldn't win the trophy but we are proud of the boys and I bet you, there is more from them to come.Mark my words.

I have predicted every road end of each team in this tournament even my almighty Nigeria and it came to past.

CAMEROUN, IT IS YOUR END OF ROAD TOMORROW, I'M SORRY BUT THAT IS THE REALITY. YOU SEE, THAT TRUMPET MAN FROM TUNISIA IS ALWAYS ON MY SIDE AND ON THE WINNING SIDE OF THE NATIONS CUP. EVEN IF HE CHANGES MIND AND STAYED WITH CAMEROUN TOMORROW, IT'S TOO LATE, BUT I KNOW HE WILL BE WITH THE CUP WINNER, EGYPTIAN............

ONE WORD FOR THE CAMEROUNIANS, PLEASE DO ALL YOU CAN DEFENCE WISE TO REDUCE THE SCORELINE, DON'T EMBARRASS AFRICA'S CUP FINAL...........

First, stop screaming - unlock your caps! We can still read your post without cap locks.

Second, Cameroon won the 2nd half of the game with Egypt, and it was clear that the first half they were sleepwalking.

Third, Cameroon and Egypt are amongst the two highest scorers. Take away the first half of the Egypt game, Cameroon has let in 5 goals and scored 15 (yes I know a football game is 90 minutes, but clearly Cameroon was not itelf in the first half of the Egypt game). So, if you have really watched the games, do you honestly think Cameroon will embarass itself let alone not win this game? The team that beat the host Ghana and the 2004 ACN champrions who were playing some great football? Taking nothing away from Egypt as they are playing great football, do you honestly see Egypt embarassing Cameroon again? I know you might wish that, but it is not going to happen. That cup is headed to Yaounde!

After the group stages there has been some fabulous football. The best African football reminds me of Brazil just before they took over the world. If the Egyptian players can concentrate on their football skills rather than their acting they will take some beating.Great viewing for us neutrals.

I havent been watching it, mainly because despite all the hype most of the teams are awful, if egypt with our boro player who never plays can get to the final it cant be great.

Not to mention the fixing of team hotels and other dodgy stuff going on to try and get the hosts through. Ie ghana get 5 star, others get a shed. It wasnt on.

I imagine the final will not be open, but this sounded like a good game.

pinnicleoffruit, thankfully, respected names in the game have been watching and their opinions have been positive. What other dodgy stuff? there was talk of an offer at the beginning of the tournament which wasn't substantiated, the events that have followed have proved that the tournament has been fair and need I add, very exciting. Well you haven't been watching but you somehow know most of the teams are awful, I strongly doubt that the Euro Championship will be half as exciting as this tournament has been.

The thing is some people refuse to see any good in Africa, this is despite the fact that Africans are doing well all over the world.

So, obviously you have nothing to contribute. Your statement betrays stupidity and ignorance.
