Sad end for a good footballer to retire at the age of 32 due to fitness. This quote sums it up...

"I can't have a burger without putting on half a stone"

Why a professional footballer needs to eat burgers is beyond me!

In all seriousness, if you have weight issues you need to focus hard on a suitable diet.

I liked John Hartson, he was a good old fashioned centre forward with great ability. In his autobiography, he says how Arsne Wenger wanted him to stay at Arsenel before he left. He would have definately prolonged Hartson's career.

He was a great servant for Wales, and produced some geat moments for all Welsh fans. I remeber his time at Celtic the best, that goal against Liverpool in the UEFA Cup was superb. His record in Scotland was fantastic.

At 32 he could have added valuable experience to the current Wales team, as our main centre forward. It's a shame how things have ended but good luck to him for the future. Even if he is a JACK!!!

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank West Browmwich Albion and their fans for paying for Johnny's divorce, thus enabling him to retire early and spend more time with his kids.

You're all heart fellas.

Legendary, old fashioned, centre forward and hardman. Will never forget him scoring 2 against Man U at old trafford in 2000/01 trying to keep Coventry in the Premiership, unfortunately not to be but he was a great player. All the best for your retirement....
Super, Super John
Super Johnny Hartsonsmiley

For a time John was one of the most feared target men in europe. Alex Ferguson said once that he hated Man Utd having to go up against him. I think he never realy got the full credit he deserved. Good luck John, your a legend.

No he wasnt.

Oh, do I detect a bit of backward "hate anyone in green and white hoops who goes to the wrong church religous hatred?
You old firmers who carry on with that kind of rubbish need to drag your arses into the 21st century and start acting like us modern folk.
Hartson was quality, as he proved by scoring against the second biggest team in Scotland on numerous occasions.
Add to that his international record in a struggling side......

John was a very good player who will be missed.

I don't get his attitude regarding the Swans though.

If he really wants a final fling with us then he can get one. All he has to do is get himself fit, ask if he can train with the Swans, accept a low-end wage or play for free (he doesn't need the money) on the basis of pay as you play. If he works hard enough he will get a chance.

The truth is he doesn't want it enough, saying he would have gotten fit is rubbish if he won't do it now.

I respect you as a player John but please stop with the bull.

I have it on good authority that Hartson had something to do with Jackett's dismissal. He was offered to the Swans and Jackett had a falling out with the chairman over it.

Yup.

Certain board members have spent the best part of two years trying to bring him to the club. Jackett resigned as a result of one attempt to sign Hartson behind his back.

Martinez fended him off once and luckily now Hartson's made the decision for them.

I saw John Hartson felled by a blow from Darren Purse when Darren was playing for Birmingham City. The ref missed it,but John Hartson got straight up rubbing his head.Five minutes later ,in full view of the ref,John punched Darren with a right cross from which he stayed down for about 10 minutes.John didn`t wait for the obvious red card,he simply walked down the tunnel. In these days of prima donna`s & divers how sad that a proper footballer can play no longer.Good luck John in your fight I know you will give your best
