Twenty20 England

Hello all, well England kicked off there series of matches against New Zeland with a comftorable 20-20 victory against a NZ team that was rattled with new faces and some inexperince.

It was good to see that we where agressive with our batting and the loss of wickets in a way didnt seem to slow us down, omething that we have being quilty of in the past. Masca seems to be devloping the habit of stringing 6s together, a very ueful habit that is as well!

KP seems to be hitting the ground running which is bad news for NZ and we had several other good scores that shows that we can score quickly in this format of the game.

Sidebottom impressed with the ball and masca again took his fair share of wickets, which should ensure him of the man of the match award.

The only real negatives for the side was the amount of extras that was conceded was a throw back to the duncan fletcher years where we were guilty of giving team 50 odd extra runs through no balls and wides.

It was also not nice to see Oram decaptiate some of our bowling, something we will have to be wary off as the ODI series progresses. However Oram remains one of the great players to watch and part of me wanted to see some fireworks off him.

Quick ratings -

Wright 4
Mustard 7
KP 9
Bell 6
Collingwood 7
Shah 7
Masca 9
Swann 7
Broad 7
Sidebottom 8
Anderson 7

Anyway its just nice to talk about something other then race and hatred which seems to be infecting the 606 boards at the moment.

Heres hoping for some good discussions today.

So what do you think about Englands victory?

Do you agree with my assesment and ratings?

DL - I think in this case what they have put in the beer is pies, chips, KFC, McDonalds, Burger King...

My word DL, that's fascinating. In fact the modern languages dept was down in Park Square; in my day it was rat-infested but I understand has been rather nicely restored. Mind you, last time I was in Leeds I got completely lost as it was 'motorway city'.

Headingley was great in those days, and you could invade the pitch, but I'm talking the 1970s when things were very different cricket-wise. My first test match was at Trent Bridge and I was aged 7 - late 1950s.... and Fred Titmus was playing = what a great player he was too.

Its surprising to see England winning one match.Even their supporters are amused.
But can they even come close to beating Australia or India.I doubt. They don't have the class nor the attitude or the skills needed. They just have big mouths.

Ah, nostalgia ain’t what it used to be, GirlfanLondon.

Beware the inner city “loop” if you visit Leeds again. It’s so confusing, that once on it, the only way off can be behind a tow truck after you’ve run out of petrol.

Your being a bit harsh on Wright

"Your being a bit harsh on Wright" - more harsh on the daft decision to continually put his an an opener when, at international level, he clearly preforms further down the order. If he gets a good knock as an opener I will hush up, be he hasn't, but he HAS gotten good knocks down the order.

those who actually watch wrighty week in week out at sussex will no that he is good enough to open, its a 2020 game and anyone can fail, he was the top scorer at last years competition in england so clearly has the talent
He is only 22, so we have to persist with him, and one day he may break into the test team, his bowling is underated and undervalued, he is often bowled in a situation when the batsmen have no other option but to slog.
give the lad a chance people, he is going to be a great cricketer in a few years

i agree Wright needs to be stuck with, as does Mustard. he keeps getting starts, surely it's only a matter of time before he weighs in with a big score?

i was pleased but also a little disappointed with KP, he made a good score, but possibly would like him to pace himself and maybe stay in another couple of overs.

and Masca for the ODI all-rounder spot?

I don't feel masca cn play as the only all rounder as his batting against the quicker bowlers is actually quite poor, though give him his due he hits the spinners a long way.
