Alan Knill

League Two Bury

So, Alan Knill is the new manager of Bury. An old fans' favourite from the early 90's, but as a manager relatively inexperienced again. He was sacked by Rotherham after an ineffective period in charge at Millmoor, so how will he fare with the Bury job?

It's nice to see an old face bck at the Lane but I still have a few doubts about his appointment personally. I'd have preferred someone with a lot more experience of life in the middle and lower leagues in order to understand the challenge that lies ahead.

Congratulations is due to the Bury board though, for not sticking with Chris Brass, who will probably return to his dual role as Academy boss/player at Hyde Utd. I don't wish him ill but I'm glad he didn't get this job on the evidence of Saturday's performance!

Alan Knill was very highly rated by the LMA during his time with us. He had no players, a point deduction and no budget but still managed to form a side that, up until January, were on course to stay up. The only problem was the lack of funds. This meant we had to sell Hoskins and Williamson in January. which left the side with a severe lack of quality and from then on relegation was inevitable.

He's a top bloke supposedly and definitely deserves another crack at management.

just to confirm starkmillers story,

Alan Knill took the reigns at millmoor, when things were looking bad.
10 point defecit at the beginning of the season, no cash as stark said, but he moulded a side with some good players.
Powers that be needed to raise funds for the bank as we were in debt, "things were looking grim"
He had to sell his best two strikers, and results started to go against us.
unfortunatly relegation was innevetable, but no fault of Alan Knills.
good luck to the guy im sure he will do a good job better than keegan will do at newcastle

Alan Knill, he gets my full support, lets hope he can turn it around, apart from Saturday against Wimbledon, its not been to bad since we Sacked CC & KA, 442 and the team will click.

Wilbutpiescoffer, why don't you Dale fans go and crawl back into your holes, get back on your own boards and keep talking about promotion !!

Knill was doing very well at Rotherham untill forced to sell his best two players & i think he will do o.k. at Bury, Chesterfield signed him as defensive coach originaly & so far have let in about 35 goals so i for one say good riddance but good luck anyway for the rest of the season.

rotherham fan here to defend knill's spell at rotherham.

he did a good job at rotherham in that he continued with the nice football we played under hartford but also added a bit more fight. his downfall was the offloading of hoskins and williamson - our two best players. he quickly fell out with the board over this with a few public comments about his unhappiness at the sale.

One thing I did expect but he didn't really deliver was a good defence. This probably echo's the point made by spirelover but the defence always looked shaky and that is supposed to be his forte.

good luck to him.

One of your Directors has said 'we hope he's the right man for the rest of the season'. This infers he'll get the sack if he doesn't turn things round quickly which won't breed much confidence.

Given the circumstances in which he worked successfully at Rotherham to me he sounds like the right guy whether you stay up or go down.

I'm looking forward to his first press call, should be interesting to hear what he says about the current situation, as well as his plans for the rest of this season. Also, a word from the directors as to the length of his contract wouldn't go amiss.
