Another player gone.International Republic of Ireland by rainpaulo123 (U8237591) 03 February 2008 Andy O' Brein has just retired from the Irish set up at the right old age of 28.I think with the players dropping so fast it shows this whole set up is in big trouble. No one cares anymore Duff in an interview in todays paper admitted the same. eraticfox (U10963335) posted Feb 4, 2008 andy o brien is average like most of the ireland team. They put on a real good show in the 2002 world cup but since then they've a lot of their players have lost form. Irish people need to stop supporting Rangers and Celtic/ Man U and Liverpool, this would help to pump more money into the game at home. Has dublin even got a team???? I know there players can a good chance at some clubs maybe they should just start supporting Sunderland. Anyway although he hasn't delivered for ireland yet their best young player is probably aiden mcgeady and hes a celtic irish convert. Good luck to yous

ComeOnDavid (U9283667) posted Feb 4, 2008 O'Brien is a useful player to have, good leader, played for my club Pompey and like Bolton fans saying he's one of the few things to come out of the Lee era for us he was one of the few things to come out of the Perrin era, R.O.I should do all they can to convince him to play on, can never understand footballers retiring from international football anyway, especially at the supposed peak of their career which O'Brien is at, aged 28!

RememberScarborough (U1754296) posted Feb 4, 2008 Those ignorant people calling Andy O'Brien obviously haven't seen him play this season. He's thrived on the responsibility of leading a troubled defensive unit and is probably our player of the year so far.

utddean (U7001952) posted Feb 4, 2008 look having a team full of world class players wont just make u win a cup. if you look at the england squad its a team full of world class stars but just play well as a team holland was also the same for many years. you need a team full of pride and passion for there country the perfect example was greece winning the euro in 2004 they did not have a team full of great players but a team of players who play well as a team and give 100% everygame another example is poland and i will be honest i honestly think they will win euro 2008 there team work well together and play good football so its like this if the players want to retire let them if they dont wanna play for there country we should not go crying looking them back no matter how good they are. bring in some young player and give him the chance or else get all the players in the eircom league who play that postion give them all a trial and pick one of them at least they will give a 100% to there country on like the english born players. i just hope some other fans will actually think like this. if anyone else wants an example the north of ireland not great players but well as a team i think it has come to the point were the republic and northern ireland team join up and become that great force as ireland with plenty of players to pick from
