Mascherano - Worth 17 Million?

Premier League Liverpool

Rumours are rife that Mascherano will sign for 17.1 million. I don't actually know who Liverpool have to pay the money to, as this whole Mascherano/Tevez/Joorachbian/West Ham affair isn't worth trying to understand.

But anyhow, Mascherano is a decent tackler but nothing more. His passing leaves much to be desired and I STILL haven't ever seen him score a goal.

I think 17 million would be the biggest waste of money since Darren Bent, Andriy Shevchenko and Michael Carrick!

no one is disagreeing with the fact he is talented. its just questionable to spend that much on an area your are strong in, when your wings and 2nd striker options arent great. kewell has never been the same since leeds, and pennant is a bit hit and miss.

"Essien, Makalele and Mikel to name but three are miles better than Mashwhateverhisnameis".

There you go, that's chelski's midfield for you. Too defensive and too expensive by far. 1-0. Bet you're chuffed Mourwhinio has left eh? Time for attacking footy? Bloody typical, so short-sighted that every chelski player is actually better than the opposition player in the same position. Don't talk to me about paying over the odds for Masch, chelski invented overpayment. Mikel better than Masch, don't make me laugh. Mikel is a disgrace to football. Don't forget he was forced to sign for utd then went into hiding with his agent in London to broker a move to the bridge. Since then he's hacked and cheated his way through the season and also managed to become one of the most disliked footballers in the premiership by fans and players alike. If that's the kind of player you want for that money and trouble, to represent your club and to be a role model for young fans, for those wages mate, you can bloody keep him. Masch is quality. I don't use "best in the ......." unless it's preceeded by "possibly one of the....."
Don't rubbish the man. He's a quiet, decent human being. He appreciates west ham's role in bringing him to English football and despite leaving the club has said nothing derogatory about any of the staff. players or fans. He realises how fortunate he is to be working with Benitez at Liverpool and considers the move to be a step in the right direction in terms of his career. Besides that, so far there have been no revelations regarding his personal life and he has proved himself to be a hard working, aggressive and tenacious footballer with a lot more ability than people give credit for, probably because of the position he plays in.
Javier Mascharano is worth the price that Liverpool pay, whatever that may be, for having some dignity if nothing else. He looks at home in the Premier league. And I think he will be an absolute gem of player for the Reds. Go on Masch!

Well said, Shinny. Perhaps if he went in with a few reckless tackles, shouted to the ref, slept with the first tart to come his way, got away with all kinds of cheating then peeeerhaps he'd be just about good enough for Cheatski, eh?
As you said, he's class and a very good player in the making for us, and I too agree on the "best in the..." bit. To me, he's class and if there's anyone better then so be it, maybe Cheatski can offer £30m for that player and have him turn them down too =)

I believe that a Mascherano deal is an excellent one. Many top european teams are out to benefit from Liverpool failure to sign him. This is a clear indiction of his quality/ We only need the team tto improve play all round and Mascherano's contribution will be better appreciated. 17 million for Mascherani is good money well spent. He simply oozes class. Not many better than him at this level now. Whats more, he has age on his side. Let him be.

Yeah he worth it. With he is doing presently despite he is not on a permanent deal, I hope he can do more if he is fully signed by the clud.

Even some of my Liverpool supporting mates disagree with me when I see he is worth every penny. (I'm an arsenal fan)
He is IMO, one of if not the best defensive midfielders in the world. Think about Liverpools games against the top teams in the last 12 months, have any of the oppositions playmakers had fantastic games, no.
Lampard, Fabregas, Ronaldo, Kaka and Ronaldinho have all been marked out of the game by Mascherano. How long were Makelele and Gilberto underated for their jobs at Real Madrid, Arsenal and Chelsea?
Mascherano doesn't stand out against the smaller teams so you should probably play Alonso in those matches, and then Masch against teams who will try and attack you.

Mascherano(issit right?)is one of the best DM in EPL. Please. How often do you expect a DM to score goals??? They snatch possession for the attack to score. Flamini has been underrated for seasons under Gilberto's shadow. Now, hes one of Arsenal's best players. He is worth at least 12mil, maybe nt 17mil, cos thats the price of strikers or AMs. Even Ronaldo, Man Utd's talisman has been shadowed successfully by this lad. He is worth more than what you think, Toon4Europe.

Ok, maybe I agree with the part abt WHU. That's simply dumb. BUT he is more than a decent tackler. Im in favour of Hicks feeling the pinch though. I dunt wan Pool to be strong.

Following Mascherano's excellent goal against Reading I thought it only fair to bump this thread.

Quite simply, the Masch bashers are wrong. He is a very talented footballer, imo the best DM in the league and when he has licence he also has ability on the ball, yes to make 50 yard passes and yes to score goals.

Before you say "it's only 1 goal and it took him over a year", the discussion wasn't about goal ratio, several Utd fans implied that Masch didn't have any skill and is only a spoiler...well clearly you were wrong!!!

but

you've got to understand that masch transfer fee covers the loan and permenant deals which costed us 17.1 million

money well spent

and with xabi gerrard and lucas to play with in the central midfield role

pretty amazing
