Capello and Beckham

Here's England's provisional squad for the friendly against Switzerland on February 6:

Carson (Aston Villa), James (Portsmouth), Kirkland (Wigan); Bridge (Chelsea), Brown (Manchester United), A Cole (Chelsea), C Davies (Aston Villa), Ferdinand (Manchester United) G Johnson (Portsmouth), King (Tottenham), Lescott (Everton), Richards (Manchester City), Shorey (Reading), Upson (West Ham), Woodgate
(Tottenham); Barry (Aston Villa), Bentley (Blackburn), Carrick (Manchester United), J Cole (Chelsea), Downing (Middlesbrough), Gerrard (Liverpool), Hargreaves (Manchester United), Jenas (Tottenham), Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), Young (Aston Villa); Agbonlahor (Aston Villa), Crouch (Liverpool), Heskey
(Wigan), Owen (Newcastle), Rooney (Manchester United)

So Robinson dropped and no room for Defoe etc.

What are your thoughts on that then?

This is a friendly so Capello wants to use it to get to know as many players as possible and how they will play under him . Capello already knows about David Beckham from their Real Madrid days and he hasn't played a competitive match in the last two months. So there was a only very small chance we was going to get picked. But since most of the England squad always get themselves injured before a major match, expect Beckham to show up at some point!

Beckham didn't steer Real Madrid to la Liga!

If anything he jumped on for the ride. He only played in half of the games in their unbeaten run to the title.

Unbeaten run to the title my eye! Before Beckham came back into the team, they didnt have a hope in hell of winning the title, otherwise why would Capello have bothered to bring him back into the team?

Unlike you loudlovelyrita Capello doesn't believe Becks is God's gift to football.

The team was already nine games into its unbeaten end ofseason run when Becks was recalled because he had impressed in training.

Madrid were fortunate that Barca imploded and Sevilla lost form and that enabled them to nick the title at the end.

As ever Becks was nowhere to be seen when the chips were down. In the final game he was substituted only for his replacement to win the game and the title.

Ultimately it was decided by the two games against Barca.

Becks contributution to those crucial games was two minutes as a late on substitute.

Sorry to let the facts get in the way of a good story!

Well Well clever Italian,

thumbs up to Agbonlahor's call up clever player and he makes an impact. Becks should be on the bench, he's taken some stick but when he came on for england in the last few matches he was a different player and made massive impact showing fight and passion. An england legend and deserves at least his 100th cap.
Heskey is a waste of time, he dusnt even stand out when playing for wigan and their not exactly a team of big names.
overall a few surprises but why does every manager pick heskey? no one wants him!

Great tactics by Crapfella. And wow what a manager. Convinced half a dozen no hopers that they were good enough to play for England. Gotta be the con of the century.

Bring on Lichenstein we'll have 'em.

One match, and he's already being slated as a no-hoper.

doh

That's just ridiculous, even on 606.

Would you rather SMc come back to bring us further glory? doh
