What a Terrible Season We've Had!

Premier League Liverpool

22/2/08:
Once again, we're not going to win the title because of our poor squad. Apart from Gerrard and Torres, we have no match winners at all. Whereas you look at Man Utd, and they have Teves, Berba, Ronaldo, Rooney, Scholes, etc.

Now, we only have the Champions League left, but we're up against a fantastic Real Madrid. I can't see us winning that.

Looks like this season will be another failure!

19/2/08:
Before I start, I won't be surprised if people give me 1 star for this article and make personal comments about me, becuase of their arrogance and their complete denial about the direction in which Liverpool are heading. What I'm writing below are my thoughts, as a Liverpool fan, about our season, and I'm entitled to these thoughts as much as any other Liverpool fans (e.g. the "In Rafa We Trust!" brigade).

Firstly, as a Liverpool fan, I can admit that the red card Materazzi got was very harsh. Definitely not a sending off. If he wasn't sent off, I am certain we would not have won. We only broke down a 10 man team after 85 mins with a deflection. So, if we had played 11 men for 90 mins, it certainly would have been a different story. Regardless, naturally I'm very happy that we won the match and have a dominant position in the tie.

But, I can't believe how carried away some fans are getting! In NO WAY does the win tonight cover the cracks for our poor season. The European Cup is great, but we are absolutely poor in all other competitions. And we will never be recognised as a top team if we dont win the League.

Every season I get hyped up alongside thousands of other Liverpool fans thinking that we would win the League. Look at the 606 archives- there were A LOT of threads at the start of the seaosn saying we would win the Premiership. But we've flopped big time!

We can celebrate in unison for the short-term. But in the long-term, Rafa, the team and us, the fans, are fighting a losing battle.

Some fans seem to think we'll win the champions league. We WON'T. There are at least 5 teams far better in terms of quality than us: e.g. AC Milan, Real, Barca, Man United, Chelsea. This season will be a trophyless season- mark my word. I'm not being pessimistic. I'm being REALISTIC.

So, finally I just want to say that there is nothing wrong with having hope. I have hope. But what is wrong is having false hope, because at the end of the day, we'll be kidding ourselves. Having too high expectations of our team, will result in many of us feeling heart broken at the end of the season.

Never mind you'll buy a new player in the summer who will be "the last piece of the jigsaw" again and "it will be your season" again. Then by christmas you'll be out of the title race again and be able to look forward to this time next year when you'll all be enjoying yourselves writing articles & posting threads on the same subject of 'What a Terrible Season We've Had' again.

redconn....

I know what you are saying but if I was a star performer at work and got meets objectives - believe me I would be gutted!

It's just the way I feel lads, been to many many games this year and am gutted with the way things have turned out. I want us to be a great team and for that we have a bit to go. Still optimistic, still believing, still hungry, still passionate and forever loyal.... and with Torres, Gerrard, Mascherano, Skrtel, Agger, Carra, I feel confident that the future is a good one!!!!

All the best!

It wasn't terrible! Terrible is finishing well outside the Champions Leage places! We've just had a very quiet non event this season.

M8 we were much better than Inter, you can use the ten man excuse all you want! Other than that, I pretty much agree with you. We are miles behind everyone else because we buy players like Gareth Barry. It's like Aurelio and co aren't already bad enough.

Considering you were 3rd last season, then spent in excess of £70m on players and will finish 4th this season......

I would say complete failure, but perhaps not terrible.

Good luck in the CL qualifyers next season, mess them up and this season will have been terrible.

Look at the pl points
2002-2003 64 5th
2003-2004 60 4th Worse
Benitez 2004-2005 58 5th Worse CL chamions
2005-2006 82 Great 3rd 1 point off second. FA cup champion. Beat in qf angainst Benfica
2006-2007 68 Worse on previous season but better CL run
2007-2008 76 if win last 2 games but 11 point adrift from title

At this point in time our total points score in 05 06 would be required. We are drifting away from ManU in points.

We have gone 2 seasons without a cup or premiership battle near the end of the year. and after in 06-07 drawing with Arsenal but getting through on goal difference we fell behind by 7 points. Now we cannot blame the boardroom, the players should be profensional

I will want better players next season in right back that is coming in for free and better wingers in Bently. I don't want Lennon, I would rather have the out of favour Sean Wright phillips or someone else, lennon is average! a STRIKE PARTER FOR TORRES which I believe will come through selling Crouch

Ins

The right back for free
Get back Carson from loan
Barry
Bently
Wright phillips or someone else good
Villa or Benzema
Pogrebniak also as he seems quite good

Out
Itandje- that keeper who played against Barnsley who can't hold a ball!
Pennant
Kewell
Finnan- now is poor defender i have come to realise watch him defending allways showing wingers the inside to easily cut into
Risse- -gd this season and poor defending v chelsea in cl leg 2
Crouch- To raise money unfortunatly
Voronin- free or 1million as he isn't that bad

This season would be absolutly auful if we hadn't have had Torres

I don't know why teams bother having managers. Obviously, a quick foray into the transfer market to swap out half the team will ensure massive success. An accountant could take care of that and we must have a plethora of those right here on 606.

This is slightly harsh.

I'm even surprised people are complaining about this season.

Rafa has managed to build a massive wall around him and his teams emotions during the joke with the owners. What has happened behind the scenes is a laughing stock for other players and fans, whoch would have really affected morale.. which is a huge factor for winiing leagues!

The Chairmen falling out in public.. making petty interviews on Sky Sports News to help ARGUE there point trying to win public over (Tom Hicks). Coming out live on TV and saying your Chief Exec needs to resign, how the Club has failed over the ;ast 10 years and how he hates his partner and will buy him out. Does the whole world need to know?

I mean it has been a joke and any other manager would have walked at Christmas after the Klinsmen mess. Rafa stuck by the fans and players and what commitment a passion from him!

Sorry.. but our team has defied odds by beating both Inter and Arsenal.. so what if way may have had slight luck? We still bet Inter 3-0 on agg and Arsenal 5-3. Materazzi started that game like he was going to get sent of.. his actions told you it. Luck or no luck we done it and the players should be praised.

The only reason we started to fall behind was when they freatened to replace Rafa.. it was before Christmas, when they told Rafa to "back of and continue with the job" IN PUBLIC. Before that we were unbeaton. Something we have not done at the start of the season for 20 years. We should take positive that we went unbeaton.. I think if the Board kept quiet and left Rafa to it we would have kept it going and would still be challenging.. but its clear this affected the team.. before this we were on fire, then we drew continuosly.. for weeks!

For you to right this article makes me sick! You should be ashamed. You really dont care what has happened to our Club since January and aren't even taken the ownership mess into account when making this article. DISGRACE!
