this is capello's first game, and time for him to pick his team for the future. NOT a david beckham testimonial. he went to hollywood.

Beckham is as fit as a fiddle so your argument is unfounded anyway.

---------------

absolute tosh

i dont see how training on an irregular basis with arsenal having finished his pub league season 2 motnths ago makes him "fit as a fiddle"

you just paint yourself out to be a binded man u fan stuck in 1999....let me guess....you also copied every one of his haircuts?

pity Cappello hasnt been given the jurisdiction to pick who sits on the FA! all those negative comments from Barwick. Cappellos reign has only just begun, yet Barwick is still peddling out the same rubbish about lack of Talent, already lining up a pocket of excuses should England not succeed and since when did England have 90 or so top class players to choose from? The guy is full of Negative Waves!

Re: Beckham

i think we can all agree that he has been one of the best England players in the last 35 years.

But ehre is where we disagree: can he carry on??

He should only carry on if there is no-one better to replace him. Playing at LA Galaxy and people like Lennon, SWP and Bentley coming through, has meant that the answert is 'No' for Copello's POV.

I think he should play- his crossing and set plays are unique and he has rescued and nearly rescued England on many occasions.

Also, rememebr McLaren dropped becks at the beginning of his tenure??

Do I detect an attempt to appear ruthless by new managers?

I remember another new manager coming in and dropping beckham to prove a point. He stated much the same as Capello. What a mistake that was. It wasn't until he finally brought Becks back into the squad that the national team did ANYTHING. Becks may not be the greatest footballer in the world but lets face it England sure aint the greatest team either. At least Beck TRIES which is more than can be said for a lot of other so called great English players.

After the way Becks has served his country he deserves more than the morons in the "anti becks brigade" are giving him. He has served his country well and like all those that serve their country he deserves recognition. A place in a meaningless game of football to get his 100th cap is nothing more than he has earned. No matter how fit he is he will still out play half the england squad, he always does.

I wouldnt mind betting 99.9% of the people in the anti becks brigade have done absolutly nothing for their country and never even tried. So stop slating those that have.

Never mind whether Beckham "deserves" his 100th cap or whether he is "match-fit" or not.

Capello has made a rather large strategic blunder in his first decision trying to show how "hard" he is. He certainly is not as clever as he thinks he is.

erm

Since he has not told Beckham that his career as an England player is over, the "100th cap controversy" will rumble on until he gets it.

The clever choice was to give Beckham his 30 minutes against Switzerland in a friendly and then no-one would ever complain again, whatever Capello decided afterwards. After all, the 101st cap isn't a milestone.

But I am with those who blame Bloater Barwick. It's all very well Barwick saying the blazers will not interfere in team selection, but I think some quiet advice could have prevented this. But Barwick is gutless and probably quivers before the testerone-oozing alpha male that is Capello.

biggrin

PS. Whatever happened to the "root-and-branch" review of the whole FA-England set-up that we were promised, eh Barwick ? You probably realised you would have to end up sacking yourself, didn't you ? And you certainly don't want to lose all those free lunches.

I bet 99.9% of the people in the pro becks brigade have done absolutly nothing for their country and never even tried. So stop trying to cheapen the achievements of those who have by giving away undeserved caps for sentimental reasons. Everyone, thats right everyone, should earn each of their caps honestly whether 100 caps or just 1 cap for 5 minutes of a friendly
