Fallon - The next chapter

Flat racing
comment on the article

Contrary to varied and misguided reports, in my opinion, the career of Kieren Fallon is not over after his 18-month ban for failing a drugs test.

I won't labour the point, as I said five weeks ago it was too early to write off the six-times champion:
www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A30257...

Even if his appeal fails, he can return to the saddle in August 2009, and he will have a few offers, simply because he is one of the best riders in the business.

So-called experts who have written off his career before are at it again.

And while Fallon deserves little sympathy for failing a drugs test for the second time, it is frankly ridiculous to suggest he cannot recover.

The 42-year-old Irishman told the Racing Post: "There's no doubt I'll bounce back. I have many years left."

This is the man who has come back from an alcohol problem, previous bans, a career-threatening injury, high-profile trainer splits, domestic strife and a £10m race-fixing trial, where he was found not guilty of all charges.

He can now take time out, play some golf and no doubt work on his autobiography.

That should be quite a read, but I'm sure there is at least one more intriguing chapter to come.

Honest Frank

Sandy Barclay(Flat),Barry Brogan(Jumps)

I know its going back in to the mists of time but can you remember the above jock's.
Barclay, was going to be the "The New Piggot" but he never achieved the heights that were destined for his silky smooth skills with the horse's.I believe he had a problem with drink and drugs.Tried to come back and suffered a terrible injury.

Brogan, could have been up there with the top jockeys on the jumps, but got himself in to all sorts of problems money etc... and ended up going to jail.

Fallon I believe will come back as Frank has said and add to his tally of group races. The problem with todays sportspeople, there are to many temptations, money and drugs etc....

Can any 606er's recall any stories about the jock's whether flat or jumps with a similar theme/problem.

Regarding the appeal we obviously don't know the grounds but I believe that France-Galop use the lab at Chatenay-Malabry. Their website claims it to be a centre of international renown.
I would describe it as infamous. Failure to follow procedures has cast doubt on numerous tets they have done(even that of Floyd Landis which appeared cut and dried).
The case of Iban Mayo is being taken to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Two other labs cannot replicate their findings.

I look forward to Kieran bouncing back again.

Barry Brogan I believe was a complete rogue,he admitted fixing races etc.Sandy Barclay was a brilliant young jockey riding for Noel Murless but as you say his career ended because of various problems.Regarding Fallon,he is undoubtably a brilliant jockey but he has so many "issues"I am not sure he would get a top job if he comes back after the ban,I doubt Coolemore would have him back as top jockey,he will be nearly 45 by then.

Fallon is finished and i say good riddance.A talent in the saddle without question but as a man, totally lacking any moral fibre. He has courted controversy throughout his career, bringing bad press on himself and the sport in general. Not often i agree with Big Mac but he was right when he said that a jockey on drugs isnt that disimilar to a drunk behind the wheel of a car....they are both in charge of a ton of potential killing machine.Fallon didnt have to be as controversial as he turned out to be,he had the best stable job in Europe,he rode big race winners all over the globe and no doubt he had the trappings that a good earning lifestyle bring, why spoil it for yourself and the sport that has given you everything? Racing is full of "givers" and "takers",some people take but they try to put a bit back into the sport,Fallon is a taker who had or has no intention of putting anything back.Fallon worshippers will miss him,i as an impartial racing fan wont,if you live by the sword then you die by it.Flawed genius is to strong a statement because he never was or will be a genius, hes just a very good talent who "went down the tubes".

I´m in a very difficult position because I love KF but I can tolerate anybody who takes cocaine. He should be put in prison, send out a message to the kids.Coke is such a bad drug, not because what it is but what it is mixed with. I have chewed coca leaves in the past and you get a nice mellow effect and it gives you a nice buzz and that. Cocaine is mixed with washing powder, raising agent, petrol and other stuff. Sticking that in your body is a recipe for disaster. He´s still my fave jockey though
