wycombebhoy.. (U5353490) posted Jan 26, 2008 doesn't matter if he's english or his coaching creditials..he's there to help the manager, a manager needs someone he can trust and use as a sounding board..in a way it doesn't matter even if he's a rubbish coach..he's there to bolster the manager more than coach

MrTrippy (U10920222) posted Jan 26, 2008 I don't care if he's English. After all, we all know that many Rangers fans have a slightly ambiguous nationality problem anyway. What I do care about, however, is that he's Terry Butcher. Thank god he's only there to coach. This is the guy who left Motherwell to manage the historically glorious Sydney FC and failed at that. And the less said about Brentford the better. If he's there to take the team through their paces and COMPLETELY avoids any tactics or strategising then fine. But, if does anymore than this I can see us returning to a laughing stock.

Queen Nigel (U943851) posted Jan 26, 2008 it stuns me how someone who said "i'm not here to motivate the team" could ever get another job with any football club, let alone a national team.

QueensK (U10929058) posted Jan 27, 2008 I do not have a gripe whatsoever with Terry Butcher as a football manager/coach. However, I do not think that there should never be any foreign personnel involved with a country's national team, whatever the sport. Terry Butcher was a hero of mine when he played at Ipswich (along with George Burley) and at Rangers, but that's where it stops. He was an England stalwart too, and surely that is where his heart lies. We need 100% thoroughbred Scots whos hearts are minds are totally focussed on Scotland being number 1.

theGlimmerTwin (U10004696) posted Jan 30, 2008 People need to look at the Terry Butcher things from the right perspective. Ok, yes, he has that iconic England photo, but images are made iconic by society for a reason. It's because he gave his all, blood, guts and sweat for his cause. That is exactly the type of person we want helping lead out country as that is what our team survives on. He's been in Scotland for many years, he knows what we are about and he is part of the landscape. The fact he is English doesn't matter, he has the mentality and the pedigree to instill the right attitude to the players we have so should hopefully be a good appointment.
