It has been said that Mark de Vries from Leicester is going to be signed by Craig Leiven as our next striker. De vries is currently on loan at Leeds United.

If you take a quivk look at the stats for the season we only have one striker who has scored this season (with jordan robertson gone) and he is the small, quick, nippy type. We have two very promising strikers in goodwillie and russell coming through but neither of them are the "target man" type. I see nothing wrong with levien bringing a striker of the variety we need who he knows can do a job rather than risking an unknown quantity in the frantic january window?

personally i cant see him lasting longer than the end of next season, but if he scores and/or creates a couple and gives us another way to play (and opposing defences a different kind of threat to play against) then it will be a good bit of business no?

"HE NOW GOES BACK WHERE HE BELONGS...SCOTLAND..."

He's dutch.

"HE WAS MADE TO SCORE GOALS IN SCOTLAND AND IM SURE HE WILL DO THE BUSINESS FOR DUNDEE.."

He hasn't signed for Dundee. Not the sharpest, are you?

"Undoubtably he'll do something in the SPL playing cr*p teams like gretna and hearts"

Er, that's what makes him a decent signing - He will do something in the SPL, and that's the league we play in.

No-one's saying he's amazing, but he'll be a useful stop-gap.

Yes, and then in a year or two we'll buy another stop gap, and then another and then another. This has been the way with out club for the last 20 years. The fact that some posters have made that MDV is better than any of our youngsters exactly proves my point. Our youth system is cr*p.

"Our youth system is cr*p."

Give it a rest, the only SPL side with more players in the Scotland youth set-up is Hibs.

Our youth policy was almost totally destroyed 15 years ago and has been recovering since, and is now as good as it's been at any time since McLean. If you expected it to be repaired overnight you're living on the wrong planet. Why not just appreciate what we have and the work that's clearly being done rather than criticising signings that are very obviously necessary.

lets deal with the facts here.

In the recently announced U21 squad allocations are as follows:

Hibs 4
Hearts 3
Celic, Dundee utd, Killy, Motherwell, Falkirk - 2 each
St Mirren, Sheep, Dundee, Wolves, Ranger - 1 each.

I dont know what school you went to, but numeracy was obviously not on the curriculum. 3rd equal, along with 5 others, is very different from being 2nd.

We've had 20 years of stop gaps and are getting nowhere.

While we're on facts, "youth teams" are under 18, 16 and 15 teams.

A 20-year-old isn't a youth.

I don't know what school you went to either, but I'm not going to question your intelligence because I learned how to discuss things without resorting to insults where I went.

We have the best manager and the best youth policy we've had since McLean.

For example, the scotland under-16 team has 4 Utd players, 4 Rangers players, and every other clubs has 3 or fewer. So clearly our youth system is beginning to produce talent again.

Why is it, that despite the manager's success on limited resources, our league position, our squad, and the prospects we have out on loan, you don't think we're going anywhere?

Surely if Levein had ignored De Vries' availability it would have been a criminal oversight given how little height we have up front. Or would you rather we put Kenneth up there because he came from our (apparently non-existant) youth policy?

You can't have it both ways.

I am laughing about this. Just have a look at Leicester, Heerenven, Den Hague and Leeds during the time De Vries played for them. Exactly, only trouble

In fact the U16 squadhas 4 celtic players also.

The U17 squad(I assume you are wanting to include them, since U16 and U18 are OK)contains only 1 D Utd player,but 5 rangers,4 hearts, 3 'well,

the U15 has 5 celts, 4 rangers, 3 D Utd.

So lets deal with all the facts rather than just the select few that you choose and then distort to fit your arguement.
